Final Drive Leakage

Checked oil and its full but the boot has a little oil leaking so either it just started or it's very slow. Going to call the dealer for advice tomorrow.

Just popped the rear wheel off for a better look and there is a little oil around the boot. None pumps out if I squeeze it tho so there cant be much in there. Will have to keep an eye on it.
If it's a known issue do BMW repair it under warranty even if you're out of warranty?

The rubber boot is NOT an oil tight seal - it's a weather cover for the (unoiled) UJ. There should NOT be ANY oil under the rubber boot, or any where in the swingarm tunnel.

There is oil under there so something has failed. If there's no oil in the swingarm tunnel then it has to be the final drive seal right?
I know it's a known issue but I suspect, as I'm 4 months out of warranty I'll probably have to pay up. As you've been a victim of this before have you any ideas on how long the job takes because the seals themselves are literally pennies so the cost will all be labour and fresh oil. Can't be that big of a job? Bugger...

I've never done it myself, but the techs don't take longer than a day.

It could be either the final drive seal, or the gearbox output seal - I've had both go in the past (on my previous bike).

Checked it again today, no worse, in fact nothing there at all aft I cleaned it up last time. Either it's stopped, was forced out by overpressure or there's no oil in there at all....
I'll check the gearbox oil level next and just keep an eye on things till I hear from the dealer. Still waiting for a response.

Under warranty or did you have to pay up? Mine is damp so somethings gone but there's no drop in either gearbox or final drive levels so it's a seep rather than a torrent at the mo!
