Eric, I am happy you are alive and can tell the tale. There will be other bikes but only one you.
I am still recovering from my crash and not a day goes by without me doing a mental analysis of all the factors.
I got a call that my bike is repaired, and as I stretch my shoulder everyday in anticipation, I have now arrived at the ominous conclusion that sh*t happens.
"That which does not kill me, only serves to make me stronger"
Thanks

Thanks for all the support. It really helps. The road I was on was Highway 94 outside of Campo which is 40 miles or so East of San Diego. As far as the jacket goes, I think the stitching of the elbow patch just didn't hold. There were some tears in the arms and back as well which had nothing to do with the leather.
I'll defintely be taking this healing time to figure out my motorcycling future. And as Jamming said, it's a lot of fun to look for a new bike regardless of what I choose to do.
I'm big on learning from life and doing better going forward as you certainly can't do anything about what's past. I'm sure I'll do the same with this.
Thanks again for all of your words of support and encouragement.

I'm glad you're okay.

IMHO you did nothing "wrong." Riding a bike has inherent risks. A small reaction in a car does nothing, but on a bike it puts you in a ditch with a totaled bike.

Overall feeling pretty damn lucky. This was my first wreck in 15+ years of riding and over 100,000 miles.
15 years and 100,000 miles is a good run for never putting a bike down.

On the other hand I need to consider my 5 year old daugher's comment when I got back to the house, "daddy, I'm glad you came home."
I've got two daughters of my own, and every now and then I think of them when I'm riding.

Eric,
I'm relieved you came through reletively unscathed. You're a helluva good rider as I recall. I understand this time of healing and self reflection as I recently walked a similar path following my crash.
Please keep us all informed during your recovery and know that we're all right there with you whether you ride again or not.
Aloha pumehana,
Chef

Thanks for your thoughts Chef. I'm embarrassed to say that we still haven't made it out to your restaurant, but I have some friends who have and said it was great. I'll have to make a visit part of the healing process.
Thanks again.

Thanks for sharing your experience and thoughts with us; most of us still have plenty to learn. Take good care of yourself and take the time to think things thru. Sarah

There are two types of riders, those that have been down and those that are going down.
It's going to happen sooner or later, glad you're ok.
