It appears BMW is going to resolve all or most of their Canadian recalls before moving on to the USA bikes.

I'm going to have to go with Kevin on this one. I just received my notification yesterday. I purchased my bike in Ontario and currently live in BC.

No specifics other than that the fuel pump flange will be inspected and, if it is within tolerance (not stated) it will be reinforced, and if there are large cracks or if the measurements are out of tolerance it will be replaced. 2005-2011 BMW R Model, 2005-2012 BMW K Model, 2010-2011 BMW S1000RR, 2006-2010 BMW HP2 motorcycles.
This recall involves the fuel pump, and also the auxiliary fuel pump on GS models. Due to excessive loads applied to the fuel pump flange in the area of the fuel line quick connector during motorcycle servicing, cracks may develop in the plastic flange. Excessive loads can be generated during improper removal and insertion of the quick connector, or by removing the fuel tank prior to disconnecting the fuel line.

Further damage can be caused by corrisive materials or fluids in the area of the flange. Over time this could affect the seal between the flange and the flange housing. Eventually, as small fuel leak could occur during engine operation. After the engins is shut off, the fuel leak stops.

In the presence of an ignition source, a fuel leak could lead to a fire.
Please contact your dealer, etc. etc. They estimate two hours for the work. From the sounds of it there are going to be a lot of very busy shops for the next while.

Kyle

Received a letter today. Standard legal mambo jumbo from BMW of NA that boils down to they don't have the parts yet, but a first class letter will follow when the parts are available. Looks like a cover your ass document in case one of us goes up in a ball of flames. The letter says it's up to a two hour repair. The last recall (front brake hose) I received a letter from my dealer notifying me about it and asking me to bring the bike in.

I also received the letter yesterday. Interesting how the blame isn't on a faulty design - but on stresses put on the connector/flange. Since it would seem the engineers should have considered the possibility of stress being put on them, that part of the excuse doesn't hold water. It does however explain why I've never heard of this failure mode on an R1200R - the line from the pump goes to the solidly mounted fuel filter, and normally wouldn't be disconnected when the tank is removed, so less stress was being put on it. Nice that we have a fuel filter - the only R12xx bike that does.

Received mine in CT a couple of days ago. It said they don't have the parts in stock to do the repairs now. They will notify me in the mail when they are in stock. In the mean time, it said if you smell gas when the engine is running, shut it down and they will pay for the tow to the dealer.

If you look in your owners manual - you'll find a form to send to BMW telling them you're the new owner of the bike. I know that's a radical idea - but there you go.. BTW - you can also call them. Posting it here isn't going to work.
What page is that on?

Harald, from memory, I'm nowhere near the bike or manual.. I recall two pull out prepaid postcards that you fill in your info on and drop in the mailbox. I think that may be US federal law.

Contacted BMW Motorrad. Their response:

"If your motorcycle is affected by this recall, you will receive an initial notification letter via first-class mail to your address registered with the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) in April advising you of this issue. You will then receive an additional letter when parts become available requesting that the motorcycle be brought to an authorized BMW motorcycle dealer to have the recall performed at no charge."

According to that you'll be contacted as long as your motorcycle is registered under your current address. That being said, my bike is registered, but I have not gotten a letter yet.

Received it for the 09 R12R on Saturday - of course that is the bike that I traded to Max's back in July in CT and that the NY store sold in November....

Dropped my bike off this afternoon. The dealer is going to replace the fuel strip (again) while he's got it. Fingers crossed.

Also, ordered the gas filler gasket from the S1000RR. Any update on the efficacy of this mod?

Thanks!
