I went into the local dealer today to pick up some small stuff and arrange for a state
inspection, and it sure was difficult walking by that new R1200RT with all that beautiful
wind-protecting fairing! Sure looked like it would be nice on that CA/NV freeway!

Oh, well.

At least I finally got my clutch to release (replaced the mstr cyl with a lo miles used one)
and the bike together, and it even started right up after sitting all winter!! When I heard it
run, then I felt better :-)

I know the 2008 r1200r would have been majorly more bike, but the extra 3k was a major stretch on my slush fund, and I really have plans to upgrade my gear, helmet, etc, so just decided to stay with this one for awhile and grow into another one down the road if it works out. I might be so crippled from the AK ride I will give the bike to some schlub on my street, lol, so dont want to be out too much money .

Quizzed the sales mgr and he said everything has been done with regard to service...clutch service, other fluids, he's sending me the service history tomorrow to peruse. I'll have it back in Oklahoma Sunday evening and then the adventure begins I guess. Tires aren't new on it so will run them awhile and then decide what to have on it for the fun up to Fairbanks, where our plans are to have new tires waiting for the ride back. I've been perusing tire threads until I see sipe marks in my sleep! All this activity and I haven't even sat on the friggin bike yet, rofl...it's an affliction ain''t it?? I have a VW Jetta TDI that i've been modding and farkling for many years, and it just doesn't stop, lol. I hope I won't ignore the poor thing once the bike gets here.

I'm betting somebody changed out the Quick disconnects after they leaked. The telltale brown stain on the right side of the tranny came from that. Nice bike... Red looks like a fast color! (but the blue ones are fastest!)

Yeah I wondered what that was, it was kind of yellowish to my eyes, like clear coat got discolored or something. Can that be cleared off? They did get changed out according to service history, but I don't know if they were metal yet. Will probably swap metal ones in asap. Blue is faster??? Oh man, I was hoodwinked!

As I, and numerous others, have discovered after a failure of those miserable plastic quick disconnects and subsequent fuel leak: no, the stains are permanent.

Great Motorcycle. Learn to do the basic maintenance yourself. You will do it better than the dealer cause you care about your machine more than they do. I included a few links that have been helpful to me. I have had my R1150R about 6 months and have commuted everyday. Welcome and keep the shiny side up. Take care Roger

Anway, have the bike tucked into my garage and dried off from the rain coming across Texas and Oklahoma, and time to kick back and catch up on Fringe .

Hi guys, thought I would check in on how trailering the bike worked out. First of all, my friend's Stand-up trailer is a marvel, folds up into a very compact footprint (his is a double), with lots of tie-down attachments. Very stable ride when loaded, too. The anchor points, as mentioned, were the tele-lever in front and the frames behind the passenger pegs. I also tied the front wheel to the wheel stop with four of the white shipping crate tie-downs BMW uses, they are friction-types but worked perfectly. My f-i-lw was a little concerned about the bike being on the right side of the trailer instead of in the center, but I couldn't tell that it felt unstable at all. I added two extra straps in back to further anchor it. I have no more information.
