Installed my Barkbusters Storm handgaurds and Kaoko cruise control tonight.
Everything went as smooth as discribed. All looks great !

Can't wait to get out on the road to try it all out.

RE: Storm Guards. I just put a set on my R today and they work fine. Just be careful of the bracket orientation. I thought mine were fine, but just moved my bike under a canopy where I'm staying and the left side brackect gouged the paint on my tank that's gonna cost me. CR@P

I don't understand this.

I have both a 2007 R1200R and a 2009 F800GS, and an extra pair of F800GS mirrors. I want to move those mirrors to the R1200R. I tried threading the F800GS clamps into the R1200R brackets, but the threads are a different size. (I suspect the R1200R brackets changed after 2007, allowing for a friction fit mirror stanchion, instead of a threaded stanchion.)

Can anyone guide me here?

Sorry to hear you are having difficulty installing the F800gs mirrors. I ordered and picked up my F800gs mirrors p/n 51167715861 & 51167715862 2 weeks ago and got a little worried reading your post as if they would work on my 2007, so I made a bee line for the garage to do the install. I removed the OEM mirrors with a 14mm wrench, took a small effort due to the fact the clamps were installed with Loctite. The new F800gs clamps threaded in both sides by hand finger tight with new Loctite applied and required a quick snug with a 17mm wrench. Slipped in new mirrors, snugged clamps and slid down rubber covers. Total time 10 min. My R1200R was built 02/2007 so I do not believe the model year is the issue. Might want to check and see that the threads in the brackets are clean of any Loctite. I wish I could be of more help to you, but I don't think the model year is the issue here.

My apologies. Today, everything threads together as was explained. After careful consideration, I have to conclude that one of two scenarios applies:

(1) my motorcycle was haunted that Halloween night I was trying to thread the parts, or
(2) I was screwing the GS' mirror clamp into the R's reverse-threaded adapter.

Hey, it was cold and dark out there in the garage. So it must have been (1)!

And enjoy just looking at them as you drive. You know, mirrors are one farkle that are always in your view, and mine just continue to give me pleasure on every ride (a 350-miler yesterday, up to Atascadero, Hwy 41 to Cholame, down Bitterwater Road, then the length of Carrizo Plain on 65mph dirt, and back over Pine Mountain Summit, Hwy 33 to Ojai, then Hwy 150 over Casitas pass)!

That's a great route. Have you ridden Soda Lake Road? That's one dirt road I've been wanting to explore but haven't yet.

Not on my bike, but by car. I see no reason not to try it by bike, but I'd go a little slower to avoid surprises (and so as not to run over snakes...).

Oops, my bad! Soda Lake Road is the road that I took, easy flat 65mph dirt. No problem at all! I mistakenly thought you meant the road on the other side of Soda Lake, which is Elkhorn Road. It is a bit "dirtier", with some steep climbs and some dry washes, but I have driven it in my Prius, which has only about 3" of ground clearance, and had no problem. You could drive up Soda Lake Road, cross over north of Soda Lake, and return via Elkhorn Road, if you are feeling adventurous. April and May are good months for the Carrizo; good wildflowers, snakes, and you might see some pronghorns. Stop at the visitor center at the north end of the lake for good local info. Take the tour of the Painted Rock if you can spare the time, and drive up to the Soda Lake Overlook for some pix. Enjoy!
