Gezerbike, your bike looks excellent and at an equally excellent price. I'm surprised its still on the market. If you part out those 'farkles' (sorry but I hate that term) I suspect people will be falling over each other to pick them up including myself.
The original used non-abs bike that started this thread is rediculously overpriced in my opinion.

Rarely use my bags. A new set is roughly $300-500; this '08 is WAY farkled.

I would not fully discount on bags alone. You could easily get bags.

The new set of bags is about $1000. Used ones are probably hard to find. I ride all weather and go long distance touring at least once a year, hard bags are very useful.
I agree that the farkles are good, but they are satisfy tastes of the owner. I doubt I'd spring for Ohlins (no pun intended), I just can't appreciate the difference. Not sure about the seat- I rode a 1200R once, and the stock seat was OK for my butt.

I would agree that the bike that started this post was priced way too high. Maybe he was just throwiing out a high number early to see if you'd bite. A friend has been shopping for a used RT and he has encountered several non BMW dealers with bikes who were just flat out dishonest in dealing with him. Pretty sad comentary, but one I hear more and more in all type of transactions. People act differently when times are hard, I guess. Too bad it wasn't in the other direction.

As to the bags question, I did not need hard bags since I have a GS with a set that I do most touring on. I never liked the look of the stock bags anyhow...just too big for the small R in my opinion. If for some reason I keep it, my choice would be a set of the Givi bags from Twisted Throttle with the bags mounts that are removeable.....they look great on the bike and just seem to fit it better. Again, IMHO. I did put a set of the BMW racks on the bike so that when my soft bags are on the bike, they don't rub on any of the body, and it''s a few hundred less a prospective buyer has to pay to put BMW bags on the bike.

Drive a hard bargain! I am writing a check today for $11,000 OTD for a new 09 with ABS, computer, side cases, center stand, heated grips and I am thrilled. ANd BTW, thanks to all of you for all the useful info that has been posted on this site. I hope to contribute some myself, once I get this ride to some warmer weather and get on her. I am replacing a f650GS twin that I totalled against a deer in Montana. I was not looking for an R bike, but could not walk away from this deal. As most of us do, I rode my GS primarily on the Pavement, so I think an R is going to be fine.

Ok, AFTER my life changing test ride, the dealer quoted me $16k for a loaded R12R (this was just about a year ago).

Soooo.. I started looking for a USED a R12R. In a couple of weeks I found HELGA, a 2007 R12R, with only 350 miles, the bike has heated grips, ABS, sports screen, center stand, mounts for hard cases, low and standards seats and computer.. price $10k

I know we are talking about an '09, but I bought a black '07 model this may from a bmw car dealership I paid $8999 plus tax and fees. It had 2.3k, abs and looked like it had never even been ridden or seen rain for that matter.

God I love that Bike, my second bimmer, first was an '03? copper rockster/abs...I still regret selling that one!

teachnsurf for a used R1200R without ABS $10K would be a fair price
Otherwise I would not buy a non ABS bike or especially a BMW.
Without ABS it will be a "keeper",as in very tough to re-sell...
You should be able to find a nice used ABS Bike with bags & computer for $12K or one of the last new ones with the hc motor for $2500 off...
Winter,the economy and the new model due out in spring work for your favour...
