Insuring a bike in Alaska wound naturally be cheaper than in California, but the point is that Geico offered the best coverage for less dollars than anyone else. I think Geico was $400 dollars cheaper than what is offered through BMWMOA.
I, too, have Progressive through USAA. I'm not sure if the USAA connection keeps it lower, but my insurance went down from last year and I just renewed one week ago. Mine is also much lower than your insurance (less than 1/4 of yours). I live in a major metropolitan area, too.
I was going to mention checking BMWMOA (they have a connection to a m/c insurance co. - presumably there is a discount). I don't know how they would compare to Geico, but they may still be worth looking into. Of course, you probably have to be a BMWMOA member, so there's that cost to consider.

I had State Farm before switching to Geico this spring. Since I only insure the bike with comp/collision for 6 months out of the year, I was paying close to $800 on a $1200 annual premium. It went up for no reason this spring and after activating the comp/collision, my agent called me a couple days later giving me the bad news. She was all for me switching my bike insurance to another company. As for auto/home, I haven't had a better experience than State Farm.
