Commadore 64, then a Ambra 486. those were the days. I remember staying up all night to get a single pixel to go from one side of the screen to the other :-) Yikes DOS!!!! and you used basic to write the codes.

Radio Shack TRS-80 in 1979 I think. $599 got you the computer (which was in the keyboard) a B&W TV monitor and a cassette tape player, which is how the programs were loaded. All upper case letters. If you wanted upper and lower case you had to upgrade to the Level II ROM but I couldn't afford that since it was another $350. The basic model 80 had 4k ram. There was a chess program that could beat me. It took about 30 seconds for the program to draw the chessboard.



It worked out for me though. I didn't really learn much from it but later I bought a Mac the first week they came out. I was 33 in my first office job after being a plumber for 13 years and 1984 was a good time to have an interests in PCs. I eventually progressed to Management Analyst and did a lot of productive work. At the end (I retired in 2003) I was doing cool stuff with SQL Server and Microsoft Interdev, so the TRS-80 lead to a complete change in my career.

I used one of those, too (see above), but it had an 8" floppy drive.

That Sinclare (the very early predecessor to your model) started my career in the computer business in 1979.

Apple II plus(1981). Dual disc drives, thermal printer, 48K, and I added a 16K ram card for $389.00. Memory sure was expensive in those days.

Ironically, I still have this computer and it still runs.

1982 - Kaypro "luggable." Much like the Osborne described above. Had something like a 7" monochrome screen.
1984 - First Toshiba laptop. 256k memory and 3 1/4" diskette drive. Now THAT was a slick machine!
1990 - Many, many brands and specs of PCs (laptop and desktop) and Mac laptops.

Yes, I am a dinosaur. I can only program in machine language, PL 1, Fortran, Pascal, Basic and Visual Basic. Modern languages like C++, Java, R, etc. defeat me, totally. I've failed class after class. Say "object oriented" to me and I'll look at you blankly. I know what it means, but I simply can't get my mind around it.
