dead battery

As i've said in some other posts I'm new here but I'm having battery trouble too. This is what worked for me, attach a booster battery to the +ve post on left side of bike +ve to +ve. Then -ve of boost battery to bike frame, turn ignition on and start the bike. I used 14gauge house wire and it worked fine. Thats all it took for me but I'll replace the bike battery soon. Next question is what's involved with tank removal? Gas line clips? Anything else?

Not sure if a thread with subject line "dead battery" is really the appropriate spot for a discussion on gas tank removal but here goes.

There is some useful info on tank removal in the owners manual but here is a link to a nice step-by-step pictorial:
http://home.mindspring.com/~jabrooks/te ... emoval.htm. Removing the tank isn't as bad as it first appears but it is a bit of a PITA since you have to remove the oil coolers and some bodywork pieces.

The gas lines have quick disconnects, so clamping the fuel line isn't necessary. You will need to be very careful with the QD's - the plastic OEMs are prone to crack and because the o-rings swell somewhat, they may be difficult to separate. I'd highly recommend taking this opportunity to replace the plastic QD's with metal ones either from Omega or Beemer BoneYard though. You can rest assured that the plastic QDs will fail at some point, most likely late at night on a dark road in the rain. Alright, I made that last part up, but you get the point. You will need to replace the Oetiker fuel line clamps with screw-type FI clamps if you switch out the QDs (don't use regular hose clamps). If you decide to use the Omega QDs (http://www.omega.com/), here are the part numbers and nomenclature:
FT-LCD170-05 Brass Coupling Bodies
FT-LCD220-05 Brass Coupling Insert
You need 2 of each of the above. They come standard with Buna-N o-rings but you can get Viton if you'd like. Opinions vary but as a practical matter, either material is OK.
