NAIAD wrote:After a couple of years of owning my (Quick!)silver R, I've decided it's gonna be a long time keeper. The few mistakes (that I'll admit to) in my life have mostly about parting ways with bikes I REALLY liked. Particularly the Suzuki GS1000S (known in the States as a Wes Cooley Replica) that I had the good fortune to own for a few years. My particular bike had started it's life as the race bike for a local shop...consequently had a few parts that were just a "leeetle" bit different than a stocker.

But, now that I've decided to keep the R FOREVER, think I'd like to do a bit of custom work to make it a stand out in the crowd. And remembering the very first Superbike, aka the 74-76 R90S, thought it might be interesting to use a similar paint scheme. Silver and black, sort of like the paint job on my Arai XD helmet...

So, anyone else out there done this, or even contemplated it? If so, if you have any pictures to share, I'd appreciate it.

I posted the other day in responce to DJ Downunder that there is a picture on ADVrider site of an 1150R painted orange and hot rodded a little. Sorry can't post the picture but it is really cool looking.

Not trying to Hijack, but anyone have any idea which headlight is on the USA themed bike? (6th picture DJ posted) It looks similar to the Kawi ER-6N, but not quite.

the newer bikes are so modern looking compared to the old airheads that it is hard to make them look "retro". They tried it with the old 75th anniversary edition R1100R and it was not really that cool looking. The old cafe faring just didn't fit with the lines of the new bike. And the 1150 has even more angular lines that I think it would be hard to make it look "right" with the old gradient two tone paint scheme.

The old 90S is a gorgeous bike no doubt about it but the line of the newer bikes are so pointed and angular that i think it is too different to make it look like a 90S

And the hits just keep a comin'!

DJ...that last one you posted sure has some interesting body kit and that exhaust ala 916 is pretty cool. Is this bike down under somewhere? Never seen a fender like that one.

Other comments...yeah, I'm not at all sure that the Smoke Paint job is going to work on the angular body work of a '50R. Did love those 90S's though...guy where I lived in the 70's had the Daytona Orange, I used to sort of drool whenever I saw it. But as soon as I get the Photoshop software and some instruction from my son-in-law I'm going to try a few schemes. Thinking about it last night after looking at the newest posts, started trying to recall other color combos I've liked. And one that finally popped up was the '74(?) Ducati 750SS in two tone silver and metallic aqua...so that's another I may ponder a bit....that one may be actually easier to "fit" to the R's styling. Fender in aqua, aqua oil cooler covers, and then following the ridge line down to the seat and along the side pieces to the tail lamp...hmmmmm

And to the "Hijacker", you weren't hijacking anything. Just joining in the friendly chat, which is always welcome...I've seen other pictures of the bike you were wondering about, and like DJ, think that headlamp assembly does look like the Kwacker ER-6. But I'm not sure about that.

But all of the posts / pictures have got me to considering thinking outside the box(er) and trying something less derivative and more original. Sorry about the bad pun....I'll go sit in the corner now.

Okay guys, Phase 2.

Done some playing around with Photoshop and pix of my Silver R. Not satisfied, but I'm starting to think part of the problem may be the existing clear plexiglass sport screen. Perhaps this whole idea might work better if I had another sort of shield. That stock R90S cafe fairing really stands out with the Smoke paint jobs.

Point is...anyone out there have a picture of a silver R with a Parabellum Scout mounted? If so, hopefully you could post it for me to copy and play with it in Photoshop?

I'd appreciate it muchly!!!

Thanks, BJ

PS. And if anyone could share their likes/dislikes about the Parabellum Scout that would be cool too!

do a search on 'parabellum', there were at least two discussions on this recently & one of the guys is keeping a collection of scout fairing photos.

I've seen pics of a BMW painted to look like a German WWII fighter plane complete with aluminum plating and rivets. He is supposedly well known around the BMW MOA rallye network. I liked the look of that one; anyone know about him and his work?
