Please post pics of the screen on the bike once you get it. That screen does look good and it is priced well.

I saw one at the MOA Rally last weekend. It looked nice, but the mount was kinda rough looking. Hopefully the production one has a little better finish. The mount sure was beefy though.
For the price it seems like a good buy to me. It looked good on the bike, the shape and design compliment's the R, IMO. Come October I'll pick one up, it looks like it would be great for cold weather riding.

I did get my windscreen late Thursday from the dealer, but unfortunately did not have time to install it before my road trip early Friday (Moto GP - Laguna Seca!)

Windscreen comes with a mounting bracket, but installing it requires removing the handlebars. This may mean I dont keep it because while I know how to remove handlebars, I was looking for more of an easy on/off screen to install for longer road trips.

Just wanted to pass on the information. If I do decide to install, of course I'll let you all know how it works.

Good info. Can you take any snapshots of the mounting bracket?

That does explain why they said it wasn't going to be included in their Ride and Buy program - they said the install was a bit too complex for that.

BTW - if the bars just have to be lifted to fit it on - that isn't a big deal. If they actually have to be removed - with the controls - that is a big deal and might be a breaking point for a lot of us.

I checked instructions and it is only necessary to lift the handlebars off clamps and work the mounting bracket under and over cables. As I may need to return the setup to dealer I won't unpack the bracket, but should be able to scan instructions and send out later.

Different folks - different strokes.

I don't pretend to think I know enough to tell anyone what to do with their bike, or think my bike is the only way to do it.

I'd be interested in what the longest high-speed (80MPH+) ride the shield-less people have done. That was my big motivation for a windscreen on the Roadster. It was great with the fly-screen around town, but got very tiresome at normal mach-1 highway speeds hanging on, especially if you have a small headwind (say 20 MPH or so..) I guess I'm just not man enough to do an entire day hanging on at 100MPH apparent wind without a screen of some sort. Some of us do take the "tour" part of "sport-touring" for real.

I agree --- windshields are for tired old men who lack the stamina to be out in the wind like a real biker.
Driving rain/hail/snow/fog/frigid cold are no problem for the cyclist with only the wind and a headlight in front of him.
(Most likley because the bike is in the garage)

BTW: The street bikes I see most often without any windshield or fairing are Harleys.
Strangly enough when you peek at the odometers they usually have less than 1000 miles a year on them.

I have the BMW Touring screen and I am very happy with it. After having a faired bike (Honda VFR800) I wasn't sure what a naked bike would really be like. The test ride with a similarly equipped bike seemed OK.
I find that I can ride at 90 -100mph for a couple of hours without any problem. OK, so an all day ride might be a bit tiring but I am pleased with it.
Although it is classed as a touring screen I don't think it is very big and doesn't spoil the looks of the bike.

If you rode at 100 MPH for a couple of hours in a straight line in any direction from Dorcaster wouldn't you get salt water all over your bike.

Over here many times I (and others) have found my self at a rally 500/600 miles from home on a Sunday morning with the skies dumping a cold driving rain and you have to get home because you have work on Monday morning. It's really nice (and Safer) having a well designed windshield or fairing out in front of you. One of the reasons why we ended up with Harley cruisers and you blokes got cafe racers is the distances we travel.
Some bikes are rain magnets, I don't know about this one yet, but the Guzzi I just got rid of must of had 45,000 miles in the rain on it.

BTW: I resolved the working problem. After 40+ years I decided it wasn't for me and I retired.

The touring screen is certainly a step up from no screen, and even a large step up from the sport screen.

So far I've had:

- BMW Sport screen (came on the bike - loved the clear air around town, but didn't love highway riding with it.)

- BMW Touring Screen (bought it.. ouch! Anyone want to buy it? Much better than the Sport screen - but still left my head in some turbulent air. If you are taller than I am - it might be fine - body protected, head in clear air..)

- Cee-Bailey 16" screen (on the bike at the moment, awaiting below.. did 1,700 mile trip with it - including one day of all slab - about 450 miles of slab. Wasn't bad at all..)

- Cee-Bailey 20" screen (on the bike for 20 minutes, too tall, so I traded it off for:

- Cee-Bailey 18" screen (I've been assured by the person I traded with that "it's in the mail" - it's been in the mail for about 13 days now.. so perhaps it's time I email him again.)

.. -- I expect to try out the ZTechnic screen shortly also..

Then I'll decide which one is a keeper..

Interesting - could you make a measurement of the top of the shield to the top of the headlight? That would give a measurement of the shield height relative to other shields.

Thanks. That's almost identical to the Cee-Bailey 18" screen. Which I'm still deciding if I like (was VERY windy today - so not a good day to decide..)

Installed mine this morning - kind of a PITA. Took a 40 mile test ride, getting up to about 80. For comparison, I started with the BMW sport screen, tried the touring screen (sucked), and went back to the sport screen. For the Z Technik, I wasn't sure I'd like it at first, but after I got it on it looks ok. Definitely a big improvement over the touring screen, not nearly as much buffetiing. I do get some turbulance at about my forehead level, but I'll take that since the pressure on my chest and the strain on my arms is gone on the highway. I can even run with my helmet shield open most of the time. It's not going to be a put on/take off proposition, so I'm going to leave it on. Let's see if these pics work:

Thanks for the pics and the review. I should be picking up my new R1200R on Tuesday and am actually getting this screen on Monday and hoping to have the dealer install it when I pick up the bike.

What was a pain about the installation? Also if possible can you post some close up shots of how the shield mounts to the handlebars?
