For me, it's my "local" street riding GPS I move from bike to bike, and the backup GPS for my Garmin Montana 600 on my long distance on and off tarmac adventures.
It's basically the same as any Garmin Nuvi, but with the much more refined Apple multi-touch interface. Very useful tool, but doesn't allow loading of GPX tracks or routes from Garmin Base Camp, for street riding though that doesn't matter much. You can select a destination, then add waypoints to "sculpt" your route.
To have a Garmin "Nuvi" on your bike for $50 is well worth it IMO.
Beware though, you'll want to have the iPhone plugged in if you're ride is more than a few hours as it uses many watts of processor power. You shouldn't have any problem with that though.

Are you saying that a complete map of US fits in 2GB? Or do i need to download some area maps every time i go some place? I wanna use it where I'm sure there's no data coverage.

Yes, the whole US/Canada maps are included in the app, download it all once. Maybe it's 2.5 GB, either way no worries when out of cell service. You can get Mexico too for a little more money.
With the recent update I now get traffic camera warnings without the subscription... Handy too.

What about this Garmin USA is that the same thing? This is the only app that i see that has any reviews saying that there's no need for data connection. And it's a bit smaller and i still CAN"T fit it in my iPhone. I'm erasing all kinds of things. I think USA maps would be enough for me for now.

Funny you should bring this up today.... I found out the hard way a flaw in my system of using the iPhone mounted on the bars as my GPS with no windscreen while going into downtown LA.
A pebble tossed up from a car in front of me must have done this. Note to self, when running without a screen use the iPhone in landscape mode so it's tucked behind the gauges.

Out for a quick spin to get the oil temp up for a change this afternoon. Taken about 5 miles from home

I've been worried about this happening to my phone too. I got a Lifeproof case and ground down/drilled out a bike mount cradle and put a RAM ball on it so I could just mount it on my usual rig. Works real well, and the case isn't ridiculously bulky.

Although, the iPhone GPS days may be over - finally bought and wired up a Zumo 660 today. Yes!

With a last minute purchase I decided to lose the hard bags for this run and buy the new BMW Rucksack, a product I believe will suit me very well.
Expandable, waterproof, easy mounting, is also a backpack, priced well and modern BMW styling. I like it.

Now, did I remember to tighten that one thingamgigy?.....

A few pics of a run i did a month ago around the Murray River of Australia, NSW. Great day.

We are back from our 6400 mile Alaska and Yukon trip. The bike performed well with no significant maintenance issues. My new Denali 2 LED lights failed within the first 500 miles. I mailed them back to Twisted Throttle from Fairbanks and the replacements were waiting for me at home. I also believe I have a warped rotor. We've put a bit over 12,000 miles on the bikes since mid-April and the R used about a quart of oil total. It was heavily loaded and ridden in a variety of environments. I added the Air Hawk 2 in Alaska and it makes long stints much easier.



I ran Pirelli Scorpion Trail tires for the northern phase of our summer travels. I chose them because they are close to being a dual sport tire and I knew I would ride the Top of the World Highway and possibly some other dirt roads. I've run the TOW Highway 8 times and this time it was in as good a shape as I've ever seen it. Here's how the Scorpions looked as we were close to home yesterday: (By the way, TKC 80s are now available to fit the R1200R)





Both tires are toast with the front having some pretty serious cupping.

At the Dust 2 Dawson gathering there were 5 R1200Rs that I counted. Two belong to Alaskan women who are regular attendees and ride their Rs all over the Yukon and Alaska on dirt roads. One belonged to Rrider who posts here and is still up north I believe and the fifth rider I never met. I was the only male rider on an R at D2D I believe.



All-in-all a good outting for the R. My set-up seems to work very well. I love the Parabellum Scout fairing. With hand guards mounted and tank panniers on I have near as good protection as I did on my R1200RT. The Hepco Becker bags are holding up well and hold a great deal of gear; some leakage occurred in heavy rains.

Rode the Cassiar north and the ALCAN south. The warmest we rode in was 88 degrees between Whitehorse and Watson Lake on our way south. Last year we rode that same stretch of road in early June and it was 32 degrees and snowing. We had three days where the temperatures were in the 80s. Unprecedented in my dozen or so trips on the highway. The coldest day was between Whitehorse and Haines Junction on our way north. 32 degrees and pouring. We did what any skilled rider would do and quit in HJ; found a nice warm cabin with a wood stove and a bottle of wine.

Here's a few photos from my recent LA to Chicago in two days adventure.
From a cool ocean morning breeze to start the day to 114º deserts, high winds with puffy clouds in Utah, then massive Colorado wildfires, chilly 40º late night mountain passes, more brutal heat across the plains and ending with a bang from a powerful storm in Iowa. Roadie the Roadster took the ride without a hitch as usual and got me to work on time.
I love riding this bike, and am looking forward to the commute home!
