Back again
Hi all. My name is Hans and I live in Norway. I used to be a member of this board back in the old days (three-four years ago, I think) when I owned a 2001 R1150R. Since then I have passed through an italian Laverda, a Triumph Sprint ST, a Honda XL1000V Varadero - but now I'm back on a BMW. It's a 2004 K1200GT. Not the right bike for this forum, I know, but I just had to get back here once I got myself another BMW...
My wife shares the passion for bikes, she riding a Moto Guzzi. My youngest kid - our daughter (10) - is doing some motocrossing, while my oldest kid - our son (13) - finds this bike stuff just naff... Also, we have an Ural sidecar in the family. Great fun with that one too!
I'm looking forward to join you on board again!

Hi, my name is Ian Johnston, from a little city in Australia called Mount Gambier, about 26,000 people.
I was born in 1953.
I am a Maintenance Manager for a transport company.
Married with one daughter(18), and a dog(Bundy).
I have had my R1150R for 6 months, haveing previously had a R1150RT, R1100RS, and a R1150GS.
The R1150R would be the pick of them, followed by the GS.
I try to ride every weekend if possible, even short trips to charge the battery, and circulate the fuel.
I found this forum while searching for info on the R, and find it great.
Good to see people of similar interests sharing their problems ETC.
I also have a Toyota Soarer(or as you know it, Lexus SC400) which is a great car.
Anyway, enough of my dribble, I am sure I will get a lot out of this site.

WOWZA!! I just found this thread. hehe. I just registered this week, so I guess I'm not doing too bad. The main problem I have is that I can't seem to stay away from this site!! Aaargh!!
Well, heres my story. It's an interesting one, so enjoy! I'm 25 and I just bought a 2002 Atlanta Blue roadster from BMW Motorcyles of Orlando. I was looking at something in the 600-750cc range (I was dead set on the Honda 599). But, a family friend recently started working for BMW of Orlando. He said that he had a perfect '02 R1150R for sale. It was originally bought by a man who had five other motorcylces in his stable and only rode on the weekends. It was garage kept the entire time and still looked as it did the day it rolled out of the factory. I bought it with only 6k miles on it!! I found the old paper work stuffed in the underseat. The service papers from one year after it was purchased said that the owner only put 15 miles on the bike in its first year!!!! I did the math (his address was on the papers), and I figured that he rode it home from the dealership and never took it out again that year. What a doofus! In short, I have a pristine R.
My brother has a '99 Honda Superhawk, I call it the "Ultrachicken"!! It's all dressed up with go fast parts and whatnot. So, my mission is to one-up him and turn my R roadster into the Ultrachicken's nemesis. In the two weeks that I've had my bike, I've already mounted a snubnose exhaust on it and have 0" rise drag bars on the way. Carbon fiber bits to lighten the load are coming from Germany in the next few weeks. Oh my....
This site has been a huge help to me. That's no lie!! Everyone is Uber-friendly and supportive!! That means a ton to me. Thank you all!!!!
!!!!reinrassiges blankes streetfigher!!!!

new
Well I've been on here for about 2 weeks now. I love this site! I just got a new R1200R!! She has 370 miles! It's been raining a lot since I got her, so not much riding. I'm 24, I'm originally from MN (about 2 hours north of the cities "Mora") and I moved down to Atlanta for work. I now work for Cartoon Network. I can't wait for spring/summer! That’s about it.

the seat
I had a tailbone accident about 2 years ago...and it still hurts to sit in a car for a long time. But the seat on the r1200r isn't so bad. The first couple rides were rough, but I think I’m used to it now.

Haven't seen this thread till this morning.
I've been lurking here since I got a Yamaha V-Star back in April 06, could't find a used R1150R close to home. It took till Sept, but I found an 04 at Gina's in Iowa City. Worked out OK, my wife is riding the V-Star 1100 now - Cool!
(FYI: Never by a bike in the Fall in Illinois! Just when I really start getting used to it, time to put it away - but I did manage to put 2K on it)
This is an awesome machine, the engineers where I work call it a piece of art! My neighbor's dad has 2-GS's, and a Goldwing, and says he feels much safer on the GS's - now I know why.
Here's some basic info:
Name: Mark DesRocher
Age: 43 (soon to be 44...ech)
Joined: Last week, I think (slept since then, ha!)
Wife: Vickie
1 Son: Shaun (6 years old - who has a Bombardier 90 ATV...already)
Home: La Moille, IL
Occupation: Computer System Administrator / Computer Tech Support Employer: Ingersoll Rand, LCN Closers Div. - Princeton IL
Interests: Motorcycles and Music (I play guitar)
Winter plans: building my tool collection, of course.
Next Year: Ride a lot / hope to take the CLASS course at Road America.
This site is so helpful, thank you to everyone for all the great info! It helped me decide on the R1150R, and now it will help me modify and maintain it.

Actually, she mentioned something like that before I picked it up.
However, being that she is only 5' 1, and can just barely get both toes on the ground while on it, she hasn't built up the courage to ride it ...yet!
She was afraid of the V-Star 1100 at first too. But, the day I picked up the R was her first long ride on it. I followed her the last leg of the way home. At one point I looked down - "Holy $%^& were goin' 85 !!!"
Even scarier - she wanted a Ducati but found out they really could't be lowered. Now she's gonna wait 1-2 years, wants a used K1200R...you can bet I'll be on the board at that point asking questions about seat mods.

Hey guys,
I'm Dave from New Orleans (at least for the last 40 yrs, you aren't really from New Orleans unless you were born here, it's that kind of place).
I rode bikes in the 60's, Triumph 250 & 350, a Royal Enfield 350 and my favorite a Matchless 500 thumper. Then a long lay off while I raised kids etc. I bought my current bike in Feb 2002. It's a VTX 1800. This bike has been a dream except in two areas... it doesn't have the range the other bikes I travel with and I'm the gas stop regulator (100-110 miles) and practically every time out I scrape the pegs. I have a standing order at Honda every 60 days, new bolts.
I test rode a new K1200R and I am waiting for the Sport. The ABS, range, lean angle, ergonomics etc. all seem like after March '07, I'll be a BMW rider.
The name is from the three-four person riding group who one of which rides a Moto-Guzzi and uses tank bags with maps under the window. Last time out he also had a GPS and still got us lost in the mountains near Deal's Gap this summer. We do enjoy getting lost and don't have a Tuetonic obsession with exactness, rather more like an Italian Army attitude as in Captain Correlli's Mandolin (a Nicholas Cage movie). Anyway, the other lost boys ride a Triumph Tiger, a Honda 919, the above M-G and me on my fast cruiser.
