The dealer's story that their would be no 2011 R's caused me to hurry up and buy a new one before they were all "gone". It worked out for them too, because if I had known that 2011's would be coming, I probably would have been able to beat them up on the price. Instead, they made it sound like it was hard to find R's anywhere in the country.

I wouldn't like to put money on it but BMW are very inventive and one would not expect them to release a wheel that needed a tube in 2011 would they?
From BMW's Press Release, 11-20-2010:

"Whereas the basic version of the new BMW R 1200 R has cast light alloy wheels of a sporty style, the R 1200 R Classic has embarked on other, much more classical roads. In the traditional roadster manner, it features high quality wire spoke wheels in conjunction with light alloy flat collar rims, cast aluminium hubs, and tubed tyres."

I am so glad that the new 2011 R1200R is really not that much different from the old one apart from a slightly improved motor, when you get on it and ride it will feel much just like the old one because it's basically the same bike and any money spent on a upgrade might just be money down the drain. Which is good for me because it means I don't have to sit here looking and thinking about it and now can go away and just get on with my life. What a relief. Thanks BMW.

It is amazing how many dealers are still indicating the 2011 R1200R is not coming to the United States. I travel far too much but I always try to make it more enjoyable by visiting BMW dealers in each state. The communication is either terrible between BMW and the dealers or dealers simply have a selective memory.

I am glad that there is still a naked R in BMW's line-up, but see no reason to lust after it over my '07.

Pretty bike--pretty much like my '07. I'll keep what I have.

Here's some pics my son took of the 2011 Classic at the Long Beach MC Show in December. I don't own a R1200R (yet), so I'm not around them all the time like most of you are, and I haven't stood next to a R1200R for months, and I'll tell ya, those cylinders sticking out the sides seemed huge. Not that there's anything wrong with having big jugs ... just sayin'. Also, I like look of the beefier 2011 fork legs a lot.

Me with Jason Britton - he put on a fantastic stunt riding show!

They will seem almost freakishly large until you've ridden one for a while. But I have to tell you there is no more beautiful sight than those jugs out in the wind while riding, the design seems natural for an air-cooled motor. I've always loved the design of the boxer, quirky and beautiful and no shortage of double entendres that I'll refrain from sharing out of respect for Stef. The motor functionally is a work of art, torque on demand, easy to handle and amazingly forgiving of being mishandled.

cheers
