Pics / link to hugger info??? I wouldn't mind checking it out...celticus wrote:Let me know how that new shortened rear end works after the first ride in the rain. Don't get me wrong I wish you well but that is why I put a hugger on my bike. Whatever was rearmost on my bike whether it was luggage or wife/passenger would be covered in the roostertail of debris. On the other hand that nice clean looking rear end might look better with a hugger. I like the way mine looks. I like the way yours looks. I have been thinking about taking the decals off of mine also.

Good looking. Something to consider.celticus wrote:The hugger is made by Ilmberger and distributed through one of the big BMW dealers out west ( I will remember which given time ). It is carbon fiber and expensive. I could have done it in plastic but I allowed my self an indulgence and went for CF.
Installation was a breeze.

Thanks for the props.parkec wrote:mcavotta nice job on the Tag Job.
I'm going to have to checkout decal removal, and maybe the hugger (especially if I get a Bling Shock)
When are you going to lose the Electrolux Exhaust Canister?
As for the exhaust, this is the first bike I've ever owned that's rolling stock. The truth is, I've never seen/heard an aftermarket exhaust for a boxer twin whose looks/sound/performance make it worth the scratch. I'd love to be proven wrong, but these motors just don't sound that great opened up, unlike a v-twin or a triple.

I agree, I was going to go for an aftermarket exhaust, but after hearing a few R1200Rs with aftermarket exhausts I changed my mind. They still don't sound like motorcycles, and there is no horsepower gain.mcavotta wrote:

I have a really loud airhead (one of my Harley buddies said it was "Really Fxxking Loud" and a Valkyrie that is a little loud, and I'm enjoying riding a bike that doesn't scare little children and wildlife. Or maybe I'm just getting old.

Loud for loudness' sake is silly. The way I see it, if you can't sing, get off the stage and save it for the shower.

If you get a full system there will be a hp and torque gain but if you only swap the endcan there's not mutch to be won(you sooner loose some hp) except for some weight saving. Personally I love the sound of the BMW twin with a loud pipe, I had the cat removed on the R1100S and open Laser endcans and this sounded awesome. With the R1200R I only replaced the encan with a BOS carbonfiber one and this sounds great without being to loud. Also I think it looks better as the can is placed in a steeper angle and more inward. It doesn't sound as good as my Buell S1 White Lightning did with a modded aircleaner and open carbonfiber can but still sounds pretty cool.

I haven't placed the BOS badge on the can yet but kind of like it this way, here you can see what the endcan looks like with the badge: http://www.bos-exhausts.com/bmw-ned/index-bmw.html
As for recordings I never heard one that did the real sound any justice but here I have a link of the BOS exhaust on the R1200GS. In real life it sounds mutch darker: http://www.motorradonline.de/static/spe ... _fahr0.mp3

Good looking bike! Ditch the decals and get out your hacksaw!Skippy wrote:Photo's over here: http://r1150r.org/board/viewtopic.php?t=10228

As for the sound, thanks for the effort posting but I can only hope it sounds better than the anemic dirt bike in that recording.

Cool bike Parkec. The Remus Powercone is also very nice looking, I doubted long and hard between the Remus and the BOS I have now.
Have been thinking about removing the decals as they do look a bit cheap and nasty and when I bought the bike I said to the salesman that it was probably the first thing that I would remove but somehow I didn't get round to it yet.
Would still like to see some sideshots of the numberplate bracket before I start hacking away
As for the sound, it does sound a lot better then that audio link. I have the db killer removed and it's sound s at it best while reving hard and when you shut down the throttle then you get a realy deep dark burbling sound.
Exhaust sound is something that is very hard to record well. Ever heard 4 stroke moto GP bikes? Sound on the telly doesn't even come close!

~hijack alert~
Skippy, you're coming from an 1100s too?
I got rid of mine for the new R...no regrets, but I wish I could have kept both.
Do you mind sharing some of your impressions about the new R in comparison to your S?
You can PM me if you prefer.
Thanks Skippy.

I wish I could have kept all my bikes but sadly I don't have enough space or cash to do so(I esspecialy wanted to keep the Buell S1 White Lightning). I traded in the R1100S as it was to uncomfortable to ride at low speeds(anything less then 120km/h actualy) and speeding is getting more and more difficult in Holland. So I wanted a bike with more relaxed ergo's and more or less the same power as the R1100S and ABS. What I was left with was the choice between the K1200R(used with old style powered ABS brakes), the R1200GS(also old style powered ABS) and the R1200R that just came out when I bought it. I had my hart set on a GS but didn't like the old ABS system so when I saw the new R1200R and read about the new ABS I took it for a testdrive and I was sold. Super ergonomics for me witch is great for touring and cruising at low speeds(no more pain in the neck, shoulders and wrists as with the R1100S), more power then the R1100S and super brakes along with a great handling and light steering chassis. The lack of wind protection also makes me ride slower witch means less speeding tickets and less risk of loosing my liscence. It still is pretty fast though and I already saw 220 km/h on the speedo once without to mutch problems witch to me was very impressive as I had no screen on it when I did the speed and I'm not the most aerodynamic guy(understatement). Maybe in the future I will switch to a GS(they come with the new ABS now and I love the looks and they do ride very well all though they feel less powerfull then the R and I think it's to expensive compared to the R) but for now I'm very very pleased with the R.
What colour is your R Eric( maybe a picture?).

Ah Skippy...you are indeed a kindred spirit.
I was also dreaming of a GS even though I didn't love the old, whining ABS. It was luck really that I saw the R at the dealer. One test ride and I was hooked.
Here's my new girl:

My old S is still one of the prettiest bikes I've ever seen, or owned. She will be missed.
If I ever take a long tour I may consider a GS in the future, but for now the R is perfect as my city commuter and weekend get away machine.
Sorry for the thread hijack, I was just suffering a little R1100S blues.
