Seaway Trail & St. Catherines (pics for DJ & Gypsy)

MLW (My Lovely Wife) & I went on our first weekend outing w/ the R a couple of weeks ago.
Ready to go;

First stop was Scottsville for coffee & breakfast. Great place;



Next stop was Brockport; home of Erie Canal (really creepy) & a SUNY campus. First time there, worth stopping at again.

Thought this sign on an old building was pretty cool, faces north so paint hasn't faded too much.

Looking down from elevated sidewalk access (pedestrians can walk across when liftbridge is up).


Next stop was Hamlin Beach State Park. Practically deserted on a beautiful summer weekend. I guess the $7 entrance fee is too much or distance is too great for a lot of folks, but sure is a picturesque place.


After that we went to 30 Mile Point Lighthouse. Great place to visit.

Next stop Fort Niagara; only spent enough time there to snap this shot, but we plan on going back soon.



Next stop St. Catherines Ontario. It was very crowded by the waterfront; we spotted this place and thought we could get in.

Hostess looked at us and asked if we had reservations, I looked around at the empty seats and said "Are you really that busy?" at which point the manager came over and spoke to her briefly, she looked us and said "We can seat you outside if that is OK." Great. This is not representative of a typical dining experience for MLW & I; this was really over the top but I know we'll be going back. I felt pretty odd getting the camera out in this environment, but after I did so did several other tables (of much more 'well heeled' types). These pics are a tribute to DJ's culinary reporting.

We went shopping at local bookstore and I found a copy of Road Runner magazine with an article about the Seaway Trail in it. It was cool to see a write up on a local favorite. We slept good that night.

The next morning we went to Niagara on The Lake; great place. Drop dead gorgeous place to be, directly across from Fort Niagara in NY.


This is for Gypsy (hope you are doing ok w/ all that rain in Texas). It is right on the Niagara River, up about 60' on a bank/cliff in a very quiet neighborhood.


I have many more pictures to post, but have been off & riding (a few hours in the rain today). Later.

That sure beats an egg and bacon roll and a cup of bad black coffee! Not sure I would have had your patience about 'eating outside', but maybe it was worth it for the food. Looked pretty good! Nice trip report. Thanks.

Great looking bike..Great looking food...and great looking weather.

We've had rain and crap weather down under lately so it's nice to see blue sky..even if it's only pics.

Great report and pics. I'm from Rochester and my sister lives in Holley, just west of Brockport which is reallly a nice old town. I need to do some more exploring next time I'm visiting the family. That food looks amazing! Looks like great ingredients and nice presentation. Is that filet mignon you ordered?
Yum. Even though I just at enough for 4 at a July 4th cookout I'm feeling strangely hungry!

I really find it uncanny how married couples tend to start looking like one another after a while. You two look very nice together and the ride report was excellent.

I think that was Tony and Scottybooj down there ogling the bike. Are you sure they weren't in the neighborhood?

Thank you for the great ride report. Great photos too. The pork tenderloin? your wife was served looked wonderful and reminded me of a memorable dinner I had once in Black Mountain, NC (believe it or not - it was not bar-b-que). Were those lima beans served with it? I was laughing, because I would have left them on my plate like she did.

So they made you sit on the patio because..........??? Why??? I've been relegated to patios or denied service in the south a few times in my life and even recently, but it's usually a case of misunderstanding or misjudgment about my ethnicity. I guess the restaurant was too fancy to cater to motorcyclists??? Whatever the reason - it looked like a great meal and the empty plate is a witness to that fact.

Good days to you both. And if the two of you ever make it to Texas, please let me introduce you to our roads................ when there is no water covering them.
