Top Case For '04
I have been searching for a way to mount a hard top case from any of the big three (Krauser/Hepco/Givi) on my '04 rockster. So far, it would appear that I am sh*t out of luck. Anybody find a way?
Thanks
Thanks

hi. Givi do some very good boxes, they also do a very neat mount and bracket which fit realy well onto the pannier rails. Only fault is that it mounts right on the back of the seat, Makes passenger room quite limited.. I fitted 52 ltr case, ugly but the thing has hardly been off the bike for two years.. RR

See Ya...RR

Hepco becker

The wife likes it as a backrest. Big enough to hold a helmet and a jacket, or one Aerostich Roadcrafter. Less $$$ than the Givi.

Thanks. I noticed that you said your bike was an r1150r, not the rockster. I know that it is essentially the same bike just less "disco" (a.k.a obnoxious). The problem that I have been running into is that there seem to be multiple mounts for the r1150r but not so many for the rck. I really appreciate the photo's and info, I'm just not sure if it will work with my bike? No shame, I have an '06 honda metro that I ride the five miles to work....

Rockster and R-R are identical for this purpose.kiteman wrote:Thanks. I noticed that you said your bike was an r1150r, not the rockster. See the other threads were the differences are discussed. The rear-end frame and bodywork are physically identical.
Another option is the SW-Motech Rack from Twisted Throttle. By its self it does not allow for the use of side cases (BMW) but will work with other types.

And again, the Roadster and Rockster are identical for when it comes to the luggage and rack systems along with many other commonalities.

Thanks for the help folks. I am glad to see that I may have some options. I had called twisted throttle a few days ago regarding the SW-Motech Alu Rack Toprack, but their sales rep stated the same thing that the website said- that it only fit '05 and newer. I suspect that he was just regurgitating what the web-site said. Has anyone mounted this on an '04?
Thanks Again

I got the same answer but 2004 was the last model year in the U.S., my 2004 was actually made in '03 and sold to me in '06 for what it's worth. That rack will fit any of the rocksters and roadsters (1150R's) out there, my bike is identical to the one pictured, and the other products that state the same info are shown on an 80th ed roc. That all being said, a friend has the rack on an '02 roadster and it works well, I will probably do the same in a couple weeks.

ScooterCop-
Thanks again for the photo's. Do you know if that Hepco Becker rack can be mounted without the system case racks already on the bike? If so, is it compatable with bmw or other brands of system racks? Essentially what I am trying to do is find a stand alone top case mount that I can eventually add a set of system cases to. If I end having to do all the bags at once, so be it. I just found that on my last bike, the top case was the one that I couldn't live with out.
Just read your reply Jas-Thanks a bunch, VERY helpful!

The Givi rack will mount to the bmw system rails / case holders. Givi also has a "stand alone" rail system that the rack attaches to although the Givi rails require that the charcoal canister be relocated or removed.
Didn't mean to step on ScooterCop's question, but like yourself I have been toying with the same idea and researching the products for about a year...problem is, I cannot commit (limited funds).

Yeah, it looks like this is going to be an obscenely quick way to spend a grand. No offense taken, I was kind of casting a wide net to anyone who knows more than I do (Not a rare occurence) . I think that I am leaning towards the SW Motech ALU-Rack Toprack mount and then more than likely, the Givi 52 top case. It is looking like I can mount the Alu-rack top rack mount by itself, then add the SW quicklock sideracks when I can justify getting the side bags. Good luck on your search, and thanks for the info. My last bimmer was dialed in when I bought it, so this is pretty interesting.

Then use the BMW rails, which hold the system cases, and the Hepco Becker rack will replace the BMW luggage rack and hold the top case. I got mine from Eurotech Motorsports.Essentially what I am trying to do is find a stand alone top case mount that I can eventually add a set of system cases to.
And, yes, there is a stand alone rack for use without the BMW rails.

One option: I bought the luggage lugs and a Pacsafe tail bag. This bag comes with padded straps to secure to the bike. Waterproof without a separate cover, keeps its shape empty, lockable to the bike, and doesn't move around. I don't use a back rack, so this setup will not leave room for a passenger.

Help, install
I just bought the Hepco-Becker rack, and I'm hoping someone can help me out.
I bought the BMW side-rails awhile back, but I've never had the BMW rack. From what my pidgin German and Google tells me, I need to have the 'original' screws to mount the rack to the BMW handles. I know I didn't get any screws with it, so that's all I can think of.
Can anyone confirm this, and if so, anyone have a part number for the BMW screw kit (or a size I can get form the hardware store)?
The second question is about the mounting. I found screws that were about the right size and test-fit the rack. The rack seems like it's too narrow for the rails by 1/4" or more on each side. Are there spacers involved or do I just torque it down? I'm a little worried about breaking the plastic rails.

You need part #6. Check, if you can for fine vs medium vs coarse threads. I believe it is 1.25 threads you need. But it might be 1.00 threads.
The slight offset of the rails to the rack is not a problem. Simply lossen the rear frame bolts slightly, then fit everything loosely, then tighten everything evenly (to frame and rack at same time).

I was able to get stainless screws of the correct size in a local home improvement store (Value or something similar). I confirmed the screw size first at work. It is small enough that you could just take the whole thing into the store with you. Mine did not look like it lined up correctly at first, I just eyeballed it without it being in final position; once it was everything was fine.

Well, after way too much research, the end result was oem bmw stuff. If anyone is interested, Hammersly BMW E-bay store ended up being the least expensive http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/New-OEM- ... QQtcZphoto
They were $735 new including the rails etc.....
Thanks for all the help!
