First long day ride - questions...

I recently bought an 04 r1150r. After a long day ride of about 250 miles, i have the following questions.

- my knees seemed really bent. what is the best way of getting more distance between my seat and the pegs? higher seat or lower the footpegs?
what suppliers sell lower footpegs?

- wind protection was lacking. I have this aftermarket small screen screen from the previous owner. I want to upgrade it, but dont want to spend a fortune. What are some good options?

overall - i was very very happy with the ride. i think im going to really like this bike once i dial it in right...

I do a lot of long distance riding (read: excess of 300 miles/day) on my '04 R. During long streches of a boring highway, I'll put my legs over the jugs or put my legs on the rear pegs for a short time. An aftermarket seat also helps out a great deal. Others with lowering kits will chime in.

As for the wind blast, I don't mind it at all. I have the mid-sized screen, which keeps my head in clean air. I ride with a tank bag, which also seems to help with the wind blast a little. Others have had good luck with the touring screen or an aftermarket screen. Personally, I think the aftermarket screens take away from the bike's looks. Opinions will vary.

Riding with a good ear plugs reduces a lot of fatigue during long rides.

The very first thing I did after I rode my R home 118 miles from the dealer was to order up the MV Verholen peg lowering kit. That was 4 years and 2 months and 43,000 miles ago, and I haven't once regretted it. I've done some 600+ miles days that simply could not have been possible with the stock pegs. But then, I'm an Old Fart with creaky knees, YMMV.
My source for them (Pirate's Lair) no longer carries goodies for our 1150R's, but I'm sure you can find alternative sources. I think Wunderlich makes a kit, as does Suburban Machinery. And Yes, a higher seat will help, at the expense of making it a stretch to get flat-footed you you stop.

Windshields are plentiful, as are opinions about them. A simple search of this forum will give you tons of posts. Here's what I use:



Some like it, some don't. Personal preference. It works well for me, and the fairing and windshield combination cost, I think, about $179., and that was four years ago. BTW it's a Givi A760, available from any Givi dealer.

Just be careful doing that if you're wearing nylon riding pants, they're liable to melt!
