Wow, what improvements over the 2002 RT that I had! The transmission is great, and the driveability is far improved. The fuel injection is now sorted out. It pulls much harder than the 1150RT as well. I also like the space between the 5th and 6th gear ratio now. The RT had a spread of 1000 rpm from 5th to 6th, making it a true overdrive. This was fine for making long miles on a highway, but resulted in more shifting at speeds under 65 mph. The R1200R spread is only 500 rpm between 5th and 6th, with 6th running at about 75 mph at 4000 rpm. Hard to explain, I guess, but this is much better in real world riding. Being 65 now, I really appreciate the lightness of the R too. The few times my wife will ride with me should be fine. She sat on it with the top case which has the back rest. She said it felt fine for her. We'll see. I plan to run most of the time with just the side cases for my own use.

This is going to be such an improvement over my '87 K75T!

I pick mine up at the end of April. (hopefully the weather will cooperate!)

Excellent - I cannot wait. I sold my 2000 1100 RT back in December and ordered the R12R in January. Am anxiously awaiting delivery.

Hank, congratulations! You've made me more anxious to get on my R12. I traded in my '04R1150RT and can't wait to get the newer, lighter, R12. It might be at the dealers tomorrow.

Hank: Congrats on the new bike. Excellent description of the improvements over the old R and the RT. I agree with all of them and with sixth geared the way it is, there's not much need for a downshift when passing. WOT (wide open throttle)works just fine for most passes.
