Do not of these manufacturers have web sites; trying to find Leo Vince results in nothing except various comments etc. Very frustrating. As for Remus they're just the same; don't these firms believe in displaying their products ?

So, unless Leo Vince has a site; I cannot investigate

Hello DJ; wonderful pics and such incredible scenery and weather !!!

Could you just explain to someone who's really not sure about the different between and exhaust pipe, a muffler and a 'cat' etc etc, what you need to do to achieve the smart looking pipe on your RR? I wouldn't do the job myself (can't teach an old dog new tricks !) but I#d like to be able to explain to someone what I'd like done.

Thanks very much !

Thanks John.

Basically the exhaust pipe on the RR has three main parts.

1..The headers....they're the first bits that come out of the engine and bend back.

2..The Catalytic Converter...or cat...this is the next part of the exhaust pipe..the headers connects to the cat..the cat sits under the engine.

3..The muffler..or can...this is the last part of the exhaust pipe..or exhaust system...the muffler brings the sound down to pass sound laws.

Most bikes don't have a cat...so if you took the muffler off it would be so loud..and most likely damage the engine due to the lack of back pressure.

Because our bike has a cat..the cat acts like a big muffler..it also produces back pressure...so we can run without the can..IMO

I'm sure you could take your can off yourself..it's two bolts and a 5-10 minute job.

I suggest you do this and just ride the bike for a while to see if you like it...if you don't like the sound..(like some have)..you can just put it back on.

If you notice any unbalance due to the lack of weight on the left side (like some have)..btw I have't...you can just put it back on.

If you like it..and want to leave it without the can...just ride up to your local auto store or car exhaust shop and see if they have any exhaust tips that might fit...my Autobarn had heaps to choose from...you will also need an exhaust clamp to hold the exhaust tip on..they should have them also...good luck and let us know how you go.

Wife loves her Roadster's exhaust "note" after mufflerectomy... deep. bit louder but not abnoxious. She rode the duration of last season sans silencer, without problems - and a few Old School backfires during rapid motor deceleration.

My Rockster sounds wimpy in comparison with its OE can still on (until end of warranty).

Good luck to all of you finding the right sound. Again I remind you that John Q. Public may not share your taste in exhaust sounds and may develop an anti motorcycle attitude. Keep the decibels down please.

If it's any consolation, I've been through three NSW breath test stations and not one cop has noticed the missing can or commented on the (lack of) noise. There is only a little more noise than with a can and it falls just under the dB limit. I have a dB meter and have measured it at all sorts of angles and distances. Most I can get is 97 dB, but that was without cases and at higher rpm than required under the RTA test. I think the limit is 94 under test conditions.

Ian..In Victoria we don't have the inspection each year at Rego time.

If I were you I would just put the stock can back on for the inspection..it only takes a few minutes..just for the piece of mind..then take it back off.. :D

I have had mine officially tested and carry a piece of paper to prove it..but have never been asked...even with no can it's still quieter than most bikes.

I was not the first here to take the can off...I read a post from some guy..I can't remember his name..he had a custom yellow paint job on his R1150R..anyway..he said he had tried the Remus..the Staintune..the Two Bros..and the best sound was with just the cat..so I thought I would try it..after first checking with a few BMW mechanics first that no damage would be done running it that way.
:D :!:

...I copied DJ and took off the muffler and added a cheap tip....SOUNDS FANTASTIC...throaty and deep...not much louder. Definitely a fast and easy fix to get what you might be looking for - and it does add to the alter ego hooligan in you!

Sweatmark would agree with me....my bike ROCKS...his is OK  (we are a bit competitive, you know  )

That wife of mine!

OK OK, so my Rockster's lame with OE muffler & cat... at least until the warranty expires, then it's time to modify.

At least my Buell XB sounds cool... and there's an aftermarket exhaust on order, honey!

Hi John,

I know what you mean about the sound, after consideration I went down the Remus route, Y peice and Grand Prix can.

It fixed the sound problem, I now sounds great.

I live in near Brands Hatch, if you want to meet for a sound off!!!!

The system is not cheap, but accepts the exhaust gas sensor, and is so simple to fit. Then remove the (it was always designed to be removed anyway!) baffle and hey-presto - the North Downs are alive with the sound of music!

Oh John,

The other nice thing about the Remus, because it is sold as a street legal system, it has all the correct E markings.
And if ridden gently, doesn't sound too rude, and mine recently passed its MOT with-out the baffle. The guy commented how nice it sounded with a legal can, and blipped the throttle a couple of times inside the garage, did he have a broad smile on!! Even the bad guys have a human side.

I'm in the process of talking to John Campbell (http://www.campbellcustom.co.uk) about making up a little offset to go between the Y peice and can, to drop the angle of the can. I recently picked up and left hand RT system case for £80, as I do quite a bit of touring, the extra luggage space bla bla bla. Anyway, it might be worth talking to John anyway, check out his web site, he's only in Orpington. He has a very good pedigree with exhausts, some of his bespoke systems are awesome.

Hello John; live near Brand Hatch eh; are you a member of the Kent Advanced Motorcycling Group? http://www.kamg.org.uk/ The reason I ask is because the monthly meeting has just been moved to Brands Hatch, so I could well be coming up there on the 4th Thursday of each month !

Don't suppose you have an MP3 of your new set-up have you? That would be nice.

Yes, I'll check out http://www.campbellcustom.co.uk and see what he has to say.

Cheers John
