Aftermarket Muffler for R1150R

Hi Guys

Any recommendations on aftermarket muffler for R1150R ?

I am looking to add a few HP and reduce weight by few pounds. I know Ztechnik makes nice exhaust, titanium Z4040 but it is expensive $700-800 bucks !

Any bargains out there ? Is there any other brand compatible with R1150R ?

Remus Revolution can and Y-piece is highly recommended.

(not sure what Remus is branded as in the US).

I would recommend one that does not need re-packing...I think Remus and Staintune fall into this category.

I have just bought a Leo Vince. I havent fitted yet, but have heard good things about them, so will let you know once I get it fitted, and the weather over here clears up!

The el cheapo option is to go with a chrome tip w/adapter for <$10

Weight reduction....whatever the muffler weighs

Downsides, louder and the left case looks goofy with no muffler filling the gap. Probably no HP gains though since the cat's still in place.

No..I mean re-Packing...a lot of exhausts out there rely on some kind of steel wool stuff packing or insulation to do the silancing..and over time it blows out or breaks down..and it gets louder...then it needs to be opened up and re-Packed with new stuff....all a bit of a hassle if you ask me.

BibC is right...while the cat is in place there will be no power gains no matter what can you use..IMO...and if it's just a better sound that you're after you can take the can off and just have the cat..and this lets you run with two full size cases.

I like my license, and if I take the cat I invite the local Police to give me points ... not to mention I would not pass and MOT with the exhaust taken off ... this is Britain

Tried the "just go nekkid" method and the bike sounded 'cooler' but I noticed that the bike leaned decidedly to the left while going down the road, without the weight of the muffler.

Made me crazy. I put it back on. Not worth the headache.

Question for the Lion Lady. How did the bike leaned to the left if the weight of the muffler was gone from the left side ? Since left side is "light" shouldn't it lean to the right instead.

Did anybody else noticed inbalance whith light aftermarket pipes ?

...btw duke...I had mine sound officially tested and it passed without the can..at less than 94db.

Okay, left, right, whatever. I guess the bike leaned right, I had to push on the left handgrip to track straight.

I know of someone who bought a used RS with an aftermarket exhaust. The bike tracked funny, too. After some thought as to the possible cause, he tried putting a 10 lb scuba weight in the left sidecase, the bike tracked fine then.

He put the stock exhaust back on.

I had a carbon Remus Revolution and Y pipe on my Rockster. It looks much better than stock (especially in carbon which matches the front guard and highlights the rear wheel), I used to regularly get comments from other bikers about the great exhaust note it had (I ran it with baffle removed), and the motor sure felt like it breathed better. Also saves about 10 kilos. A win win situation if you ask me.

I have the Ztechnik Titanium on my 2004 Series 80 (bought it used that way) with that Remus Y-pipe. I really dislike the thing. Sounds like rat flatulence going down the street and on the highway it's like a million people doing "raspberries" with their tongues!

In its defense, it is much lighter than stock, but I have no idea if it ever has been re-packed. The very fact that it needs to be repacked every 6000 miles (according to Ztechnik's website) would make me move to something else if I were you.

But if you're handy and you want to know what's involved in repacking a muffler, go to Ztechnik's site and look at the PDF they have on it. Then if you're still up for drilling out rivets, pulling out the old stuffing and putting in new stuffing and re-riveting every 6000 miles, then do you want to buy mine? (I'll swap for a stock muffler for it if you have one).

I agree with DJ on the re-packing issue. There are many good quality units out there that don't require it. Have fun shopping. You'll save a some weight and any perceived audible difference will be a plus. For added H.P., much more than a new can is needed...

you need to remove the catalyser for starters.....

I bought and fitted a Remus can a few weeks ago. Due to winter here in Norway I haven't ridden it yet

It sounds much better than stock, though. I only bought the can, not the Y-piece. Probably no power gain, but some weight reduction.

I've never had any troubles yet (mind you, not had an MOT test yet)
