Full Remus System
I have a full Remus system to put on my R, and was wondering if anyone else has one.
I want to know if you put the O2 sensor back in, or leave it out.
I have heard that by leaving it out, it eliminates the surging problem, and doesnt affect gas mileage that much.
Any thoughts???

Yup - stick it back. The Motronic engine management system is a "closed-loop" system. That means that it's looking at the exhaust gases while deciding what mixture to put into the cylinders for the next stroke. Without it the system will use a "default" setting (I'd imagine it's been programmed that way), that will work, but it won't be analysing the exhaust gasses..

I have a full Remus system on my '02 R and it does have the O2 sensor installed. I have never had a surging problem with my bike. I purchased it with 3600 on the clock and the Remus was already installed. I was actually thinking about posting a 'surging symptoms' thread to see when the surging happens and how noticeable it is, for my own benefit. Other than the Remus I now have a K&N filter. No change in rideablity before or after the air filter, but the bike seems a bit louder. I have heard however that with a full exhaust that the bike should be chipped. I don't know if mine is chipped to compensate for a free flowing exhaust or not, but I have assumed it is. As far as the mileage, on my last trip I topped over 50mpg for 300 miles on some nice highway and great twisties. (I'm sure it would have been better had my speed been closer to the posted limits
) Around the city the mileage is ~35. Hope this helps.

As a clarification to riceburner's post, regarding the "close loop" operation.
You are correct there is a "close loop" operation mode in the Motronic systems where the O2 sensor is uses. However, this "closed loop" only takes place at a precribed range of throttle opening and engine load such as when one is running at steady highway speeds. At this point the O2 sensor is controlling the A/F ratio to the engine, making the mixture as lean as possible to maximize mileage, and of course get you very close to the dreaded "surging" that a lot of owners complain about.
The other mode of operation of the Motronic is referred as, you guessed it, "open loop" here the O2 sensor is bypassed entirely and A/F ratio is controlled entirely by the TPS and the sengine.rpm's. This mode is when you are on the throttle. and considered a power mode, threfore the fuel map is richer than what you would get under "closed loop".
So in answer to the original question:
A) Removal of the O2 sensor does not adversely affect the bike's operation
B) Removal of the O2 sensor, does provide a richer mixture while under steady state operation, potentially eliminating the dreaded surging.
C) If you do a lot of steady state cruising you will probably notice a decrease in mileage
D) If you do a lot of stop and go and change throttle openings often, you will probably not notice a mileage penalty.
E) You don't have to physically remove it, but break the connection just behind the tank on the right side of the engine.
In closing, take your pick from the above and enjoy the ride......

REMUS
I have the Remus with the Y pipe. I removed the baffle in the can. The intructions said this would make it no longer street legal. I did not notice any difference in decibel level. Anyone else have any notes on this?

I recently installed a Remus Revolution exhaust (can only) on my 04 r1150r, works great surging at 3,000 rpm constant speed disappeared. The engine feels stronger up to redline and the front wheel lifts easier under hard acceleration.
I was told the baffle was removable, the instructions that came with the can did't explain how to remove the baffle. It looks like the rivit on the end of the silencer would have to be removed?? The parts bag came with a extra rivit, I'm assuming this is if you wanted to replace the baffle. Shining a light into the can, I can't tell if the baffle is permenatly attached. Any sugggestions would be appreciated.

I just replaced a Two-Bros (in bad need of re-packing) with the Remus.
NICE! Quieter, as I left the baffle IN, which I didn't expect. My neighbors will appreciate that, LOL.
I SWEAR there's less vibration. Formerly, the vibe I felt intruding as you break 4K RPM is now unnoticed right until the 5K RPM mark. Since 4-5K seems to be the sweet spot for power on my bike, that's a bonus.

I am seriously considering a Remus exhaust with their Y-pipe and Genesis can. Is this a good combination for the RR? Must the bike be chipped after install? I know that the Revolution is a popular can, but I would like something just a tad bit noisier!

Take the baffle out of the Revolution, and if you want more noise than that, there is something wrong.
I run mine with the baffle in, and I think sometimes it is too noisy under hard acceleration.
I have fitted a chip to mine, and I like it.
With both mods done, it fattens up the mid range real good.
