12k service - any DIY'ers in the NYC area

Post by Jason »

hey,

i'm looking for anyone in the NYC area (or upstate) that's does their own 12k services on their RR that might be willing to help a guy out in the next week or two with the service. most importantly, i'm looking for guidance on the valve adjustment and TB sync. i've been reading a lot of posts as well as the TB sync for dummies pdf to get prepared but was thinking i'd be much better off if i didn't venture into the job alone the first time. i did a couple of valve adjustments on my '73 r60/5 but am feeling much more itimidated by the r1150r. thanks in advance and take care. jason

Yep, I have done my valves several times. I have a Twin Max and all the tools. I have been doing it since about 6,000 miles and I now have 46,000 miles. The RR is still running even with all of my ham fisted work! I am located in CT north of Danbury. It is a nice ride up from Brooklyn. Whitestone to the Hutch to I - 684. About an hour north of LaGuardia. Valve adjustment is very easy, but if you have never taken apart anything on the RR it can be intimidating the first time. I just completed an even scarier task, new pivot bearings in the final drive! I am around this weekend then gone the next several weekends.
