Custom seat for tall rider

Hi, I am hoping to buy a 2002 r1150r soon the only thing holding me back is the seat. Which is way to low for me as I am 6'4'' tall with a 34 inseam. I sat on one a week ago and folded a couple of towels on the seat to sit up a couple of inches higher this seemed to work O.K. I always ride one up and have decided that a bench type seat would likley work best. I looked at corbins web site and called them, they have a one piece pan instead of the 2 piece this will work well for my seat idea The price tag is $800 If any one has any suggestions other than corbin I would be greatful to here them. You could always stick with rolled up towels and save a bundle of cash!

There is a higher seat available from BMW. I have the high seat fitted to my Rockster (I think it is standard fitment with the Rockster).

Some people fit lowered footpegs.

I'm 6'5 with a 34 inseam, and the stock tall seat works for me. I also have a Corbin I bought through eBay. As you can see, it's quite low.

Originally, I put a peg lowering kit on the bike, along with the tall seat, but that made it impossible to get the centerstand down with my foot b/c it eliminated the gap between the peg and the centerstand flange. I had to steady the bike w/ one hand, then start lowering the centerstand w/ my hand, until I could gain a purchase w/ the foot. I was sure I would one day drop the bike.

Bottom line is that this bike works well for a tall rider. There's a little more bend in my knees with the Corbin, but it makes up for it in comfort.

I have to say that I didn't like the tall "comfort" seat too much. The foam and position was good, but the front of the seat is narrower than stock and cause some butt pain.

The Corbin looks good but $800 is a lot of money for a seat. Before you spend the cash you might check a local upholstery shop and see if they can add an inch or two of semi-hard foam and a new cover.

Why not just get a GS it will suit your larger frame much better. Under the skin they are much the same bike.

Sargent seats are taller and cost less than Corbin. And you can order just the front.

I tried the tall seat to ease my knees and it helped. But I found my butt did not like it as much as the standard seat.

I'm 6'4" and I find the BMW tall seat perfect..you could always put an airhawk seat cover on for long trips to give a little more knee relief.

Or get off every now and then and take a pic...that works for me..

I am 6'2" with a 34" inseam.

What works best for me is the BMW tall seat with an Alaska Leather sheepskin pad. It gives me just the little extra height I need, and the sheepskin is very comfortable, especially on hot, humid days.

I'm 5'10", with 32" inseam, and I bought the Sargent front, It is sooooo much better than the stocker. My knees are much happier than they used to be.

I put a Corbin on my bike. Cost about half of what you are quoting. It is really comfortable. I'm 6'3" and find the wider saddle acomidates me very well.

I am 6'3" and have a 34" inseam, and my weight is 210.
My Betty is blue and was born in 2002.
I used the tall seat for the first 36k miles and it was surprisingly good, given it's design, but....now I own a Rick Mayer saddle, and I just returned from a month long, 8000 mile trip. All I can say is.....GET ONE!

It did raise me up to 35", almost the same height as the GS.

Mine was $322 plus the cost of shipping my old one to him, but his prices just went up a bit. Still a steal compared to everyone else.

Oh, and there is a long wait list.....each seat is custom made for your bod.

6'4" and I swear by my Sargent seat. I bought the front only. Best $300.00 I've spent on anything. It's wider under the butt and legs, so it lifts everything up a bit.
