Sheepdog and Wolf

I was thinking about the old sheepdog versus wolf cartoons. Variation on the Roadrunner and Wil E. Coyote.

Wolf tries to steal sheep, dog always thwarts him. Slapstick abounds.

My favorite was the version where they show up for work, clock in, all friendly like, "Mornin' Fred; Mornin' Ralph".

What follows is a day of events typical of the theme - lots of violence, of course, these were formative cartoons.

Then, 5 o'clock whistle blows and its back to friendly time, "Night Fred; Night Ralph" as they clock out.

Just checking the pulse...

I used to love Top Cat. Still have not seen him on Cartoon Network.

Cam. FWIW, I got the "mornin' Fred, mornin' Ralph." dialogue immediately! That was one of my all time favorites scenes as well.

The younguns just have no idea what they missed.

since you pointed out which cartoon that was, I remember it. I like that one too. But I'm not old enough to be a baby-boomer. :roll:

Yeah took me a minute to place that one also!! Some of my other favorites:

1. Tweety and Sylvester-Sylvester goes to hell and uses up 8 of his 9 lives
2. " " " -Moving Granny into a new apt
3." " " - Tweety nests in a telephone pole in a junkyard
guarded by the bulldog (did that dog have a
name??)
4. Bugs - The barber of seville episode, damn thing always made me cry
when elmer killed Bugs
5. Foghorn - Foghorn adopts the little genius chicken

Those are the only ones that leap to mind but they were all great!! Havent watched them in years. Might have to bring the Tivo to bear on these classics!!

Those workaday cartoon were actually Looney Tunes done in the 50's and starred Bugs and Daffy (mostly). The Hannah Barbara cartoons were animated in the 60's and brought about the Flintstones and Huckleberry Hound (and GRAPE APE).
I know I'm being a bit nerdly here, but I feel that the looney tunes were a much funnier cartoon. They were more risque- even for the 50's than the HB's from the 60's which were made for TV.
Personally, I loved the cartoons where they were buddies before and after work. I think those cartoons may have led to the modern sitcom.
