Touring Questions

Post by ender848 »

I am going on a 1 week tour this summer and will be staying at roadside hotels with the bike parked outside.

I am looking for a cover to bring with me while the bike is parked at night. I was thinking of a 1/2 cover just to keep the rain off. Does anyone have any suggestions for a small compactable cover?

Also is a front disk lock worth the time/money/effort or should I forget it? If so, any suggestions on brands?

Thanks

Abus Granite Quick 37 disk lock. Works like a charm. Not too big, can be stashed below the passenger seat, there is optional mounting bracket to attach to the frame (could not find suitable place though).

Just make sure you remove it before moving off OR ELSE :smt013.

Clarification for anyone chuckling in their coffee cup - I have not driven off with it! :D

Best to add one of those yellow telephone cord-looking reminder cables and stick the other end on the throttle side of the bars.

I once drove off with one on my GSXR600...it got was forced between the fork leg and calliper. and bent the disc carrier. The ride home was interesting if I forgot not to use the front as the oscillation hammered the pistons back in the calliper and there were no brakes followed by scary wobbly brakes. Best not to forget...

I second the EZ Touring Traveler cover. I've had one for three years now and it works fine.
