My dealer has ordered some paint for me direct from BMW Germany, I spoke with him yesterday - he says he will have it by the end of this week. When I see what he gets I'll let you know.

Well you would think not!! Since moving to the US some 'things' are just different. I want the correct BMW touch up stick and it seems these are not often stocked in the US, (well, so my dealer says) apparently the dealers here use an alternative supply of paint.

Sharpie

Post by redheadedjosh »

The service tech's suggestion was that I use a black permanent sharpie marker pen. To my surprise it actually worked pretty well. I'm still holding out for BMW to send some matte black over the pond, but until then I keep a sharpie in my tank bag.

OK - got the paint.

The Black is 962 softlack schwarz, part # 51 91 7 700 040

The Orange is 837 orange 2 met, part # 51 91 7 672 704

They both are two part sets - in that they both come with the paint and the clear, though I guess you would not use the clear over the black??

I checked availabilty on the flat black # and there is none in the states. Is there a web site or a dealer we can order that from.
From my understanding there wasn't going to be any more touch up paint in flat black over here.

My dealer got is from Germany, it took about 10 days.

You can order it from the UK, the BMW dealer that I used for many years is at http://www.balderston.net or there is a non BMW specialist http://www.motobins.com who specialise in mail order.

What I got was the standard touch up sets which are 2 x 12ml (1 x colour and 1 x clear) tubes that have a brush in the cap - they will last a life time of paint touch ups.

As for cost I don't know - the dealer gave both sets to me because he scratched the gas tank during the 600 mile service

I had a look at http://www.motobins.com - they list the orange (colour code 837) at 8.44 pounds sterling which is about US $15 plus shipping. I am sure if you asked them they would get the black for you............they always got me things that were not listed. Failing that try http://www.balderston.net (BMW dealer, being in Europe he can get all sorts of things for you that are not imported to the US). I reckon all in it's going to cost you about $20 - $25 per set.

I tried motobins and they emailed me back and said that they don't have that one(962) listed. I'm waiting on a reply from balderston.
