WEST HAVEN, Conn. Apr 3, 2006 (AP) A motorist opened fire on a group of Hell's Angels motorcyclists along Interstate 95 on Sunday, killing one and injuring another, police said.
The bikers were traveling near West Haven around 3:30 p.m. when they were shot, said State Police spokesman Sgt. J. Paul Vance.
Police were considering a number of possible motives including road rage, and were searching for a sport utility vehicle with Florida license plates, Vance said.
Roger Mariani, 61, of Stratford, pulled over before realizing he had been shot in the upper torso, Vance said. He later died at the Yale-New Haven Hospital.
Paul Carrol, 37, of Bridgeport, who was grazed by a bullet, was treated at the hospital and released, Vance said.

I read an interesting book (UNDER AND ALONE by William Queen) this weekend on the Mongols motorcycle gang (known in police circles as an OMG (outlaw motorcycle gang). An ATF federal agent infiltrated the San Fernando Valley chapter of the Mongols OMG to the point where he "patched in" & was even the club secretary & treasurer. Seems the gang was pretty challanged as far as being literate & the agent was smart.
From what I gleaned from the book, the Angels, Mongols & Outlaws are pretty much all hard core criminals. The SFV chapter of the Mongols couldn't seem to keep their bikes running much, & seemed to spend most of their time stealing HDs, bar fighting, drug dealing, extorting, beating their girls up, raping others, & other associated activities.
They never wear their "colors" while driving. They also are at their most dangerous when they are not wearing their colors, as they are at least smart enough to not attract too much attention. Sounds like the guys that shot the Angels may well have been out hunting.
I found the book pretty entertaining. Turns out the SFV chapter hangout was about 10 miles down Foothill Blvd (in Tujunga) from my house. I've passed the bar many times & seen the HDs outside. Glad I never stopped in.

I almost got stuck in the traffic jam that resulted from the shooting & investigation, but I took back roads to get around it. Three hours later I was on my way home & traffic was backed up a good 20 miles on I-95 on the other side. It happened to coincide with my first Roadster ride of the year.
It's never too late to have a happy childhood!
