I had a break from motorcycles for about 20 yrs
I took my wife on a trip fro SF along Highway One on a 1150R with all the luggage.
The first few miles across the mountains were interesting to say the least!!
Now its amazing how quickly one relearns but that being said (my last bike was a KZ650) how far the speed and brakes have progressed.
I would not have liked the 1150 to be my first bike though it is .
possible
The consensus is to learn to control and build your confidence on a more manageable machine , then you can move up.
Case in point , my wife, she started to ride a year ago with proper training( not required in Ireland?????) her first bike was an F650GS which she passed her test on.
Now she rides my 1150R or a 1200 GS with aplomb
