Rain Riding Techniques book... anyone read it

I heard about this book within a magazine and they have it at http://www.amazon.com

The book is titled "Rain Riding Techniques"

Anyone from the site read it?

I could write one, too. It's funny; some years I can tour virtually rain free. Other years I seem to be a rain magnet.

I got it for Xmas. It does contain useful info, but it is very thin and in my opinion doesn't share anything new that you wouldn't find in a more comprehensive riding technique book. Most of what's presented is common sense and I thought for what it contained (barely more than a pamphlet), it was way overpriced.

I have it and read it. I thought it was a bit superficial. Probably a good beginners book, but if you've ever ridden in rain, you could have written it.

I just finished it and was disappointed there was nothing there that was new news. I did get the Long Way Round DVD with the order and that is cool.

I think reading those books are okay but theres no substitute for going out and doing it. Obviously several important factors come to mind besides good gear and that is... you need to be on even higher alert for multiple hazards. Cars definitely won't see you better, you need to create and maintain larger gaps between moving objects and the use of breaking should be minimal. In fact on this occassion I would employ the rear brake quicker than the front as long as I had the greater distance to slow down in. And last everything needs to be SMOOTH no hurky jerky motion. I would deliberatlely take a day of my choosing when it is only moderately raining and little or no wind and no lightning. Get your gear on, tell the honey you're going out to practice and get on a less trafficked road and practice stoppin, turning, accelerating etc. Build your confidence before you actually do have to come back several hundred miles from somewhere. Several years ago it rained practically all week at Daytona. It stopped long enough to get the 200 in and then it started. I can tell you the trip back to Ohio was long and made longer by the continual raining and temp drops. If I hadn't of been riding many times in the rain this return trip home wouldn't of been possible. Wardieone

I started this thread about the book and was pissed after reading this book. First, the text and spacing is huge so now I see how they got the 63 pages. Second, this book could have been written in about 10 pages and none of the info is enlightening. As one of the posts previously indicated, there is no substitute for experience.

Save your money on this one fellow riders. I am returning the book back to amazon.com for a full refund.
