London Rocksters

Post by riceburner »

We're multiplying!!

Spotted an Ed80 with GS screen crossing the River at Putney on Wednesday evening about 6:30ish - anyone??

And a German registered Tigerstripe going past Harrods this morning towards Scotch Corner.

:D:D

Rocksters are so rare it always makes me look twice when I see one on the road, and I always appreciate how they look. :)

london rocksters

Post by darrin »

Your right they are rare. I have been using mine every day since March when I bought it for commuting from Romford, Essex to Central London and I have not seen another Rockster in the 4,500 miles since purchase.

This doesn't have anything to do with London, just the rarity of Rocksters.

There is a stretch of highway near where I live called the Dragon (Hwy 129 ending in Deal's Gap near Robinsville, NC). It's got 308 turns in 11 miles and bikers from all over come to "play." The is a rider/photographer called "Killboy" who has a staff that photograph every vehicle that comes down the road and posts it on the web to sell the photos. They post all photos in the store but feature their favs on the front page of their website. Their favs are usually funny shots, hardcore sports rider with perfect form, or just cool looking bikes.

That's a long set-up just to say: every time a Rockster goes through there it winds up on the front page (there's one there for this week: http://www.killboy.com) with a comment about the design or look of the bike.

In my personal experience, I've never seen another one on the roads, but there is one somewhere around here. People keep asking me where I was going at some certain time of day, or why didn't I wave, or when did I get a new helmet, etc.

Could've been me

Post by dmthomas »

Riceburner, it could have been me you saw over Putney bridge. I've got an '04 Ed80 with GS screen and hand guards. My route takes me from Esher up the A3 through Putney and into West End at about 8-8.30am and back again 6-6.30pm. Haven't seen too many rocksters on my travels, although have seen the same green one a couple of times. Helmet and number plate have stickers for a bike website on them (which I unhelpfully can't remember).

I'm a bit northeast of London, I come down the A41 to the M25 daily and then J20 to J25. Barely see any other bikes, especially now it's getting colder.

back home soon...

Guys,
Cute to read of you all not seeing another Rockster round town. Well I'm returning from Singapore (where there are 2) in April so hope to see you all on the road. Just fitted a Laser Duo-tone to mine, removed the 'sport' baffle and voila! Enjoy the winter! Puss.

commuting in london? isn't it too wide?

Post by duke »

I commute daily 16 mile roundtrip through Blackwall tunnel and then head west towards Aldgate.
So far I have done it on a much smaller and lighter Yamaha which I can squeeze through ANY gap.
However I will be taking a delivery of Rockster in early January and since the insurance is the same
for "SDP and C" as "SDP no C" I'm considering to start commuting with the Rockster.

How difficult is it?
My size and weight are not a problem - I can manhandle the bike and have both feet planted well at standstill.
What about the bar width?
Mirrors width? Cylinder heads?
(Because I do not want to fit crashbars - the bike will look as a courier hack).

On another point - is there a Rockster club in London/M25???

Cheers

It's a cinch. 32 mile round trip every day up the A3 and to the end of Fleet Street. The bike is never a limiting factor in how quickly I get to work and back. The "jugs" sticking out the side are no wider than the bars so no problem at all. It's all in the mind. If you ride it like a typical scooter berk and lunge into every gap the instant it becomes visible you will come unstuck. Ride a bit more maturely and work out where the gaps are/ likely to develop and you'll have almost no one gaining ground on you.

Hey, dmthomas

Could you post some pics of your bike with the GS-screen; I'm thinking of fitting one on my own bike, and I am very curious of what it looks like.
The other screens I've seen here aren't what I'm looking for.
It should look a bit like this:

I come through the Blackwall every morning on my mellow yellow roadster. I don't find it any more of a problem that most bikes. Of course the weight is more then some but it is well balanced. The lugs do cause a bit of a restriction when making tight turns between cars, the bars pass over the bonnet but the lug might catch the bumper. I have the BMW head protecters. They are good for small spills. The mirrors are quite good but as always the white van is the problem. The bars mostly pass over car mirrors. Anyway I'm going north about 8:15 - 8:30 so give me a wave.

Hi Erwin,

My Boxer was written off last week after an accident, so I can't take any images to send you I'm afraid.

Sorry; should have known, 'cause I've read your posts about your crash.
So your bike is beyond repair ?
That sucks ‼
Going to look for another Rock ?

If I buy another bike:
- my wife has threatened to divorce me
- my parents will disinherit me
- my kids will disown me.

I had a good run on the Rock and will sorely miss it, but until my wounds heal and the memory of the accident fades amongst my family, it's more than my life's worth getting another one.

It's almost been a month without a bike now and I've started to dream about riding, much like you dream of food when you are hungry. To say I'm missing the Rock is an understatement. Enjoy yours, drive safely and spare a thought for me when you're sweeping through some country lanes in the summer (I'll be on a sweaty tube train!)

Get back on.

You NEED to - mentally. Otherwise your life will never be "Normal" again. You NEED to get back on after an accident just to get back to your normal routine. Then, if after a few months (yes MONTHS) you're NOT enjoying it, still feraful etc - THEN stop riding.

it's a "Quality of life" thing.
