I’m getting along pretty well. I go tomorrow for a follow up. I’m hoping I can get a walking cast. Short answer to your question is no. To be honest I had actually asked a friend if she’d like to go for a ride with me. But the more I thought about it I had to rescind my offer (hated that because she’s cute) because I still had weakness in my right leg and couldn’t handle hurting anyone. Of course now my right leg is weaker still since I’ve been unable to put weight on it. It’ll be quite a while I think before I’ll feel safe in riding anyone two up. But an answer to an unasked question........I’m sure it’d be a comfortable ride for the passenger. My impression after just a couple months tells me it’d be a great two up bike.

We remember your hospital stay and the surprise on your face when my wife Ann, Beemeridian (our driver) and I walked into your hospital room. We had to hide our shock at just how debilitating it was watching as a nurses assistant s-l-o-w-l-y had to spoon feed you! I don't remember if it hurt you to laugh, but we did have a good time in spite of how deadly serious WBS can be in completely taking down a strong, fit adult male. Seeing you walking the hospital hallway later on (videos) hammered home the slow and difficult nature of your recovery.

R1150RT I've worked on 2 of those, one owned by our buddy OU812, Steve. We replaced a front tire (wheel carry-in at local Honda dealer) and did a valve adjustment, TB synch and 12v add-ons during his scheduled stop-over point to his Florida destination. That extra 80 lbs may need the insurance of roll bars to protect the valve covers and bodywork. Call me if you need any help.

So very good to hear from you! And I remember that day pretty clearly. Many people later told me how shocked they were (and like you were very gracious in not revealing it although I knew I was a very difficult sight) But God has been very gracious to me in my recovery. And I sure was not deserving of that grace. But anyway I sure appreciate the offer of help. You know surprisingly enough there were no visible scratches at all. The little BMW plastic valve cover guard along with the rubber bumpers on the perimeter of the system case took all the contact with the ground. And you really had to look closely to see those scratches. It's been my understanding that my year model ('05) and possibly others will only take bars from the RTP of the same year and even then there is probably some trimming of the "Tupperware" to make them fit. But that being said that's a good project for me if I can find the bars. I was fortunate enough to find some bars out of Australia for my '04. I think I need to start looking. I hope there's not a next time as now I've broken both legs on BMW's but really thankful it wasn't my left as that one gained a rod the last time. Another break would be ugly. So the goal here is to stay up on two wheels! But if you happen to get a lead on bars please let me know.

What a battle Wayne. A friend of mine recovered well from GBS and is still enjoying his vintage Austin. A younger friend collapsed and went downhill all the way with Parkinsonism and Motor Neurone Disease. I took over all the administration of his financial and welfare responsibilities. So sad and I'd eventually to auction off his vintage British Salmson. He's gone, with happy memories of his Velocette and Ducati days. Took a lot out of me last year and only now getting back on the bike. Great to hear more positive tales!

gregor--I'm thankful for each day. I still have very vivid memories of being able to only move my head back and forth. Could not speak, could not move anything. Lost 65 lbs being unconscious for roughly 60 days. But be it for the grace of God.......
Anyway that darn blue 2004 R1150R pushed me thru 3 yrs of recovery and physical therapy. (plus lots of great friends)

Now this new one (RT) is going to be a special challenge. The extra 90 lbs or so makes a difference. I'd been telling myself for a few years now that if I were to buy another bike that I really should go down 100 lbs or so because at now age 65 strength is not what it once was. So I need to work harder.
Several people have asked me "Don't you think it's time to stop riding?" My response was "Of course not..I'm not old enough!!" So just as soon as I feel like I've rehabbed this right leg enough and feel safe I'll throw a leg over it and hit the start button.
