No life in start button this AM, this afternoon it fires right up

This morning I attempted my usual start:
Turn the key on
Watch the dash light up
Hear the fuel line hum for a second
Hit the started button

This morning the dash lit up but I didn't hear the fuel line hum and the button had no life (no attempt to turn over).
New battery in January and I ride on the highway daily so it shouldn't be ded.
This afternoon it fired right up.

... any ideas?

Just finished two electrical bugs, first same symptom as yours, problem with wire chaffed under the tank took an hour to find and fix, start button wire...the second wire issue low beam and running tail light out #2 fuse blew, two hours work found tail light wire chaffed on the frame under passenger seat. All within two weeks.

I would eliminate easy fixes first. Sometimes the sidestand switch may stick or even neutral switch. Work it back and forth, make sure connector is fully seated. I clean and lube the sidestand each year. And check the switch.

that is 100% indicative of losing the safety circuit. sidestand neutral killswitches. its a well known issue, especially by the offroad guys who smack their bikes into stuff alot...

its a big electrical circle to prevent you from doing something dumb lol

mine turned out to be a small plug on the left side of the frame had been jarred loose, from sidestand switch up to the harness.

Make sure side stand is folded up and you are in neutral. Caught me a few times.

I put the side stand down and turned the key to the run position, fuel pump works, starter works .

Disconnect the side stand switch and get the same as with the stand down .

The only time the side stand switch has any effect , is when you have the side stand down engine running and put the transmission in gear, the engine quits instantly .

If the you put the kill switch in the kill position, the fuel pump does not run and the starter does not work .

I'm wondering if a broken wire around the steering head may be causing an intermittent problem here .

IGN switch > Kill switch > Engine (ECU) relay + fuel (injectors, fuel pump) relay

GND < Neutral switch + Side stand switch < Engine relay coil

So, the motor is stopped if kill switch interrupts power to the ECU and injectors relays (the relay coils).
And the motor is stopped (or not allowed to start running) if the wrong combination of neutral switch and side stand exist: if bike's in neutral with side stand down, the bike will run.

The starter circuit involves neutral switch and clutch switch in similar "if, then, or" combinations effecting the starter relay's coil ground.

When a problem pops up, I first ask, "What was the last thing I did that could have caused this?"

In your previous post you indicated you were going to install some cable sheathing on wiring from the right control cluster, which is the one that contains the engine start/stop switches. I think that would be a good place to look for open circuits to either the starting switch or the kill switch.
