03 1150R clock stopped running

Post by opposedcyljunkie »

Removed the clock from dash and hooked it up to another 12V source and it works. All dash lights (including clock light) work. No voltage detected using a multimeter at the clock terminals. I know there should be current there even with ignition off.

I doubt it but is there a fuse solely for the clock?? Wiring jungle in there, would appreciate help on where to start/look. Worst case scenario is to run new wiring from battery to clock

Thanks!

Clock itself is always on. Lights on only with key.

just check fuse # 3 "clock and power socket"

can also check the powerlet on the side. if its out.... FUSE. This happened to mine, the day I bought it. Conceivably happened when I came to test ride. It had been on the dealers charger for awhile....connected through that socket.

If the fuse checks OK, you may have a broken wire in the harness, around the steering head .
It's a common issue with these bikes to have broken wires in this area, as they were too tightly secured from the factory .

YES!! My powerlet socket is also out! And this is the diagram I was looking for. Thanks!!

Oh and one more thing, I can't adjust the time since all so suddenly, the adjustment knob behind the clock no longer catches. It is something inside the clock which maybe a watch expert can look at. But how do these things get busted when they're hardly touched?

Thanks too for your reply. I was really hoping that it isn't a break in the wire. So much work to search. It is indeed the fuse :)

My clock is like that... annoying. hassle to get to. since its behind a shield. I CAN do it. but its delicate finger ballet. pressing in and turning at the same time... every once in awhile itll catch just right and move a bunch at once hahahaha it was cold the day i got my bike up and going i haven bothered yet.

its off by 3:15 minutes right now. LOL

I've never tried turning the clock button. Just push it and it will advance one minute with each tap. Hold the button in and it will advance quickly.

Actually I realized (bad memory) that the only way to adjust the clock is to press the button. And it needs to be connected to power to do this. Turning doesn't help or make the adjustment any faster. If you're off by a lot and too lazy, just remove the fuse and let time go past its current reading. Then adjust. FWIW, it's an accurate clock and once set, you don't bother with it until the next time you disconnect the battery.

BTW, when I pulled out the #3 fuse, it was indeed busted and had a 15A rating. Just wondering why a 15A is used and how I busted it without ever using the powerlet socket.

#1 that isnt "lazy" that is BRILLIANT. LOL im short 3+ hrs...guess Ill remove, then kick back and drink a buncha beer....? hahaha

#2... could be water in there. or...old fuse, shock to the bike maybe.

or even a short in the handlebar wires where theyre zip tied-well known problem.

wasnt aware of just pressing the clock button to move it...oops. should have read the manual.
