Drive fluids

Post by carl1957 »

I've used conventional oil in my old airheads. What is the conventional wisdom regarding the R1150R?

I've always stuck with the Castrol that was originally specced for the bike.

I reside in a low desert, so air temps of 105-120 F ( in the shade ) are the ' norm ' for the ' hot ' season, May - October, I've gone to Mobil 1 V-Twin (20w50) motorcycle oil .
If you are in an area with more moderate conditions, regular motorcycle oil is fine for your use .
I use Red Line MTL, ' manual transmission lube ' in the transmission, regular gear oil doesn't seem to work in really hot temps, I get a lot of missed shifts using it, with the Red Line oil, very few shifting problems .

+1 for castrol automotive oil. I use 10-40 in the winter and 20-50 in the summer. Standard 75-90 in the tranny and rear diff.
