mirror extenders?

Post by xprof »

So, for our 50th anniversary the bright-and-beautiful wife got me an Aerostich Roadcrafter Light one-piece riding suit. I just took it for a ride, and I think it is what I will be wearing for long distance trips, and for short trips and commuting on days that threaten rain. One thing, though: when I look in the mirrors all I see is sleeves. I guess I need mirror extenders!

But which ones? They cost from $40 (ZTechnik, at A&S) to over $100 a pair (Wunderlich), with several in between (SW Motech, Touratech, Nippy Norman) and I would of course prefer cheaper, but not at the expense of function. No buzzy mirrors! So, which ones to choose? Any suggestions from your experience, guys?

BTW: I'm running F800GS mirrors, and I love 'em.

If you are looking at your sleeves should adjused your mirrorws."open them up a littlebit".It is ok to see parts of your armes, but

you would like to see truffic around you.No need for other mirrors, but a proper adjustment.

One of the very first things I did on mine was to get the Wunderlich extenders.

They move the mirrors up, forward and out and in a surprising revelation, they took the buzz out of the mirrors completely.

Add to this, they look like OEM.

I'm very happy with them.

The verdict is in; I guess I'll spend the extra money to get assured quality. Thanks guys!

Now, should I also add the Wunderlich "risers", for an extra $30?

Reporting back: I got the expensive Wunderlich extenders and risers, and now I can see straight back around my elbows to spot that CHP cruiser a half-mile back. I shoulda done this years ago!

Just got this from E-bay. New from Gateway BMW $28 + $8 shipping.
I thought they might be too thin but they are almost 1/4 inch thick - should be no problem.

Will follow up after I put them on.

Installed the ZTechnik extenders and went for a ride. As expected the view to the rear (sides) is improved and no new vibrations in the mirrors. Can't see my shoulders anymore.
Only downside that I can see is the mirrors will now be vulnerable in a parking lot roll over. The bike has been over on both sides with only minor scuffs on the mirrors, if it goes over with the extenders I think you can kiss the mirror goodbye.
