Looking At a R1150R - Questions

Post by Donnercruz »

So I've been looking at buying a bike again after many years away and the R1150R/R1200R seem like a good fit for me. I haven't owned a BMW since I was 18, 28 years ago.

I have been lurking around craigslist, seeing if there was anything out there. I just found an 02 with 7000 miles on it. The guy wanted $7000, which I felt was way to much. I emailed him asking a few questions and got a good reply. He just emailed me again saying he was willing to take $5650 (one recently sold for that locally, abs model, more miles (23k) and more upgrades, I had informed him of that in my first email).

I've talked to a couple local BMW repair shops. Their big worry is the lack of miles, i.e. breakdown of fluids and rubber parts from lack of use and lubrication. I'm planning on going to take a look tomorrow. Any advice on what I should look for? How about price?

Thanks,

David

I recently imported 2 low mileage Rocksters into NZ...1 x 6000mls from Alabama, 1x 10000mls from Washington state. Both flawless so far after about 8 months riding. In my opinion it's more important WHERE they were garaged/stored etc than how much use they got. By comparison, some of the Japanese imports into NZ (where they have been stored outside (in a country with lots of water around it), have been good mechanically but terrible cosmetically (ie rubber perished, metal corrosion etc). Close visual inspection will reveal all !!

No real extras besides hard bags.
A rockster came up today for $6500 as well. It has 8k miles.

I think I'd put a new agm battery in it, bleed the brakes, and ride.
