Looking at an '07 R1200R...need help!

Hey Don, I know some after market shocks are adjustable for length, would Wilburs adjust for ride height? I think that the the diff between std and lowering socks is only about 10mm. If that was the case maybe no extra cost to raise it. The bike has only 6,800 miles, not even broken in yet(I had 7,000 on my R by Nov 07), I still think it's a hell of a buy.

Wilbers normally provides shocks with less travel, and closer eye to eye (ie - shorter) to lower the bike. Sometimes this is done with an internal spacer in the shock that can be removed. You then also have to match the spring rate so you get the correct dynamic sag with your butt on the bike. Some of the Wilbers rear shocks also had a height adjuster (my Hyperpro has this) at extra cost that allows for about 5mm change in length - which equates to about 15mm difference in ride height. I've never seen a front aftermarket one with the height adjuster (I don't think there is room for one.)

So - quick answer - it's possible, but no guarantee (I don't think Wilbers used a shorter body so it's probably possible.) And yeah - it's a hell of a deal at that price. I wouldn't sell my '07 with 56,000 miles on it that cheaply. From the look of the back tire on it (probably the original Continental Road Attack) doesn't look like it's been leaned a whole bunch.

So I washed and waxed my 2003 R1150R the other day, and took it out for a ride, and realized it's still an incredible bike and looks great. It's really hard to believe it's almost 10 years old when you look at it, the paint and plastic still looks perfect. So after a lot of consideration, I've decided to hang on to it, and start looking for a new Honda CRF250L as a 2nd bike. So if anyone is considering going for that lowered '07 R1200R in Dover, DE, you should go for it.

There's also a 2007 R1200R on the Bozeman, MT craigslist page that I was SERIOUSLY considering, and if I hadn't decided to hang on to mine I would have definitely bought it. I spoke with the guy selling it a couple of times, and he was an incredibly friendly guy, and would probably work with you on the price. Just a heads up to any of you looking...

Good for you, no reason to buy a newer bike just "because its newer". The 1150 is a perfectly good bike and if you got it set up right for you I see no reason to change it. Spend all that money you just saved on gas and tires instead

I've been corresponding with them (Stewart), and was tempting myself until I saw the lowered chassis. Compare the head pipe - front axle heights with a stocker (which lines up), and it's easy to see.

They bought it from a Harley dealership and didn't know much about it - except for the aftermarket rear shock. Brane block on the brand, Hyperpro I think. I told them I think I saw a speed-sensor ring in the video, but couldn't see it in the still pics.

Well that's more than they knew when I called. First time I spoke with them I asked if it was lowered and they said "no, I think it's all stock still, these bikes just sit low", then I asked if they were familar with BMW's and he said "well I rode this one", then I asked them to measure the seat height and send me the VIN to run a check on the bike, and I never heard back from them.

There was a brake line recall on the '07. Check to see if they've been replaced.

A friend bought it. All recalls were done. The ABS is faulting out, so he's going to be sending the ABS modulator to ModuleMaster. Other then that it's as new. It has short Wilbers shocks on it and a low seat. He's buying a standard height Comfort seat for it, and trying out different windshields when he gets up to visit me. The dealership didn't want to deal with the ABS fault so they basically wholesaled it to him.. (I won't say how cheap he got it - but it was considerably less then what they were asking originally.)
