Removing spark cover R1200 DOHC

Hi all,
I had no trouble removing the plastic spark plug covers on my R1150R (twin spark) or doing any service on it. To remove covers simply put pressure on the back edge and pull. How do you remove the spark covers on the R1200 DOHC? Very tight and seems something will break. Any advice would be appreciated.

I have a 2008 R1200R and to remove the spark plug covers you need a tool to grab onto the end of the cover. I first bought the nylon tool from my BMW dealer. This tool would deform and slip off the end of the cap. I made some small wooden shims that went between the tool and the valve cover to keep the tool from spreading. I then bought a aluminum tool from Marc Parnes. I think that the nylon tool grabs the cover better than the aluminum one does. To get the covers out use the tool and gently pull. Do not yank or pry, just keep a constant tension and they will come out.
After I got the cover off I put some silicone grease on the "O" ring. Now they come out a little easier.

I have a Marc Parnes tool (use for R1150R to get coils off the spark plugs) but the cover I need to get off is the outer cover on the DOHC motor (2011).
This plastic cover runs vertically down the valve covers where on other motors was (more or less) horizontal .

It could just be me but it sounds like Boxer04 is talking about the dust cover on the outside of the valve cover. I know this cover can be tight on some bikes.

You are correct. Just want to remove the plastic cover on the metal valve covers. Do I just grab the bottom and pull hard? Seems very tight to me (relative to my R1150R Twin Spark)

I always grab it on the side (where the cable comes out) and pull it off.

I observed a dealer tech remove the cover on an 2012 R1200R using what looked like an ice pick with the end turned back to form a blunt hook. He hooked it on the lower inboard edge of the cover and pulled. Had to pull quite hard. It popped off and fell to the ground.

It takes a strong pull to remove. I made a 'special tool' with a strong coat hanger end that hooks underneath the cover on the bottom to pull the cover off. I would recommend holding a cloth or something over the cover when you remove it so it doesn't fly off and get scuffed. Ask me how I know this.

The information is exactly what I was looking for. I will make up a tool as suggested and also watch the cover does not fall on the ground when removed.
