front end vibration under braking

Post by hoflix »

My bike started developing a vibration in the front end, under braking. It's really bothersome. I was at Deals Gap the other day and I was afraid of using the front brake while leaned over, it's that bad.

Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is... rotors.
Besides that, what else could it be?

My pads are about half way done, and the rotors have no sign of wear at all, there is no wear "edge" where the pads touch, and there are no "hot-spots" on them either.

Should this be a warranty issue? :-k

I know rotors are wear items, but that means exactly that: if they wear, change them.
And to me, "wear" on a rotor means width limit, not longitudinal deformation or wobble.

Check this thread. Might be a service campaign on some pre 2008 model rotors.

Sounds like a warped rotor, to me...

No - it'll always be worse under braking - I ass u me due to weight transfer during braking

For the brakes - one thing to try if you are handy is to remove the pads and scuff them up to make sure there is no glazing then aggressively clean the discs with green scotchbrite and brake clean. While there are lots of problems with warped rotors sometimes it's just due to build up on the rotors.

Something to do on a Sunday anyway

I haven't done it yet, I'm on the road.
But one of these days....

I have a 2008 R1200R with 22,000 miles. I am starting to feel a vibration in the front end when I apply the brakes. I have read thru lots of the forums about this and I see that there are (2) Service Bulletins talking about bad rotors on some of the early R1200R's. The service bulletins are listed below.

34 006 08 (028)
34 003 07 (034)

I have done lots of searches trying to find these bulletins with no luck. Does anyone know where that could be found of if they have a copy of them that they could send me. My rotors have the "new" mounting with the spring washers. Any help would be great.

Thanks

Here's 34 003 07 (034). I would call a Motorrad dealer with the last seven of your VIN for the other.
