SPEEDOMETER

Post by reddingrdr »

Hi to all, this is my first original post. Yesterday while riding my my 2000 r1100r my speedometer went dead. I haven't started trouble shooting yet, but instead thought I would check w/ the group for an idea of the most likely cause. Thanx in advance for any info. Anyway, I got the bike 2yrs ago w/ 25,000 miles on it and it has been used only for recreational riding. The bike now has 39,000 miles after two seasons of riding the northern California byways. It's my first BMW and I have enjoyed every ride. I have been doing my own maintenance and just put on the third set of Metzlers, when while on the tire break in run the speedo went away. Hum!!! Maybe something there. This winter I plan to look into softening the ride a bit and adding a Russel DL seat for my 65 yr. old aching body. They have their shop right around the corner from where I live so getting the seat should be an easy project. Safe riding to all and have a happy holiday season. Ron

Seems like your speedo cable has gone south. It is this thick black cable running all the way from the left side of your wheel upto your speedo. Unscrew both ends and try turning the inner cable and see what happens at the other end ... If nothing happens get yourself a new one ...

Thanx for the help w/ the test. I too suspected a broken cable, but just wanted to hear from more experience. I'll test it first thing when back to town. Apologies for the slow get back. BB
