R1200R: Best way to lock a helmet

Post by SILVIDEO »

Hi there,

I am wondering which is the best way to lock a helmet (and sometimes two) to my 2007 R1200R.
There seem to not be a single pin under the seat for such purpose.
I will appreciate anyone sharing their experiences with me.

Thank you!
Silvio.

I have a Motion Pro helmet lock fastened to a frame rail on the left side of the bike.

I can fit a full face modular just fine in my luggage.. and I suppose I could put a second one in the other bag.

I am sorry I was not clear, I meant to ask if the lock, once in place, gets in the way of mounting the saddle bags to the bike.
I also fit my helmet inside the saddles, but when I drive in the city (NYC) I do not use the saddles to be able to wave in and out of traffic quicker.

I appreciate your help very much!

If you mount it in the same location as I have mounted mine, there is no interference with the saddlebags. I have it on the left side just above the intake tube. Obviously, you cannot ride the bike with a helmet locked here.

I got a Helmet Secure attached to the frame under the seat. I can slide it back when not using it.

The easiest way to lock a helmet is to buy a japanese motorcycle which will invariably come with a helmet lock. I still don't understand why so many non-japanese manufacturers can't add this handy feature. My HDs, a Triumph, and now my R1200R were all lacking this. Come on BMW, step up to the plate!

Get a cable style ski lock. Roll it up and put it in your pocket until you need it. Then you can lock multiple helmets jackets and pants whenever the need arises.

I've used that stupid triger lock that comes with your handgun. I use an HK logo-ed lock. I'm hoping that they might guess I own an Heckler & Koch USP Tactical 45 and shouldn't F with my bike or helmet!

That's what I've been doing for years. You can pretty much lock anything to the bike.
