How many Rockster's in Wales?

Post by grwrockster »

Ripping off unashamedly a good idea from Davelee99 in Scotland's topic...

I've had my Rockster for 3 years almost to the day. While I've passed perhaps one, maybe two (literally) on the road since I bought it while in the car travelling for work, I've NEVER yet stopped anywhere or met another Rockster on the road while out riding mine. Not once. Lots of other BMW boxers, and my mate rides an R1150R, but that's it. Not even in France, where I saw quite a few R1150R stockers in the course of one week (as well as heaps of GS's of course).

While I don't mind the exclusivity (or maybe that should be eccentricity?), I thought I'd take Davelee99's initiative and try to find out.... Surely there must be some other Welsh Rockster's out there?

Rangersmith - you're pretty much on my doorstep - well 10 miles or so anyway. You'd have thought that in 2 years one of us would have seen the other's bike out on the road at least once!

RS, I live just out of St Clears.

Although I do ride-out around Pembs, I do go into town occasionally on my bike, and often around it on the ring road on my way up toward the better roads East and North of the A48 / M4. Although not a regular Llandovery Cafe junkie, but do drop in there now n then for a brew and a nose at what's parked up there.

I work a regular mon-fri working week, and use a firm's vehicle mostly, so the bike is weekend transport / hobby really if I'm honest, rather than me being a big-miler :? .

Perhaps we'll get to run into one another and have a brew one of these days eh?

maybe the welsh and the scots can have a gathering for a run in the spring next spring then. A run round the lakes or the yorkshire dales would be about half way.

Like you I am a casual biker have been for 30 years, my brother in law just past his test and got a duke multistrade, so have been out a lot this summer with him, went up the lakes a few weeks ago, did hard knock pass that was a laugh.

Would like to meet up some day for a spin with you my. Around the same age as you as well 47, did you school round here ?

Also would be up for meeting the Scots next year, the dales sounds good, although me and the bros were planning a trip up to Scotland next year sometime.

BB - Haven't been up in the Dales or the Lake District for quite a few years (12+ I think) on a bike, so yes, a spin 'oop north' sounds like a good idea. I've been close enough to see Scotland, but I've never actually set foot over the border! I've heard that Scotland is fantastic for the roads and scenery (I'm a big fan of lumpy scenery!), and really do fancy riding there one of these days. I'll be honest though, I haven't simply because with limited time/money, the high potential for spending a week getting drenched with the unpredictable weather (which we get lots of in Wales too - but maybe the rain is a degree or two warmer  ) has tended to make me point the handlebars further south. I'd be up for a meet though if we could work it out!

RS - Yep, I'm 46 (apparently I'm supposed to be all serious and grown-up by now.... oh dear), and went to the old Gram in Carmarthen that's now the Council Offices in Spilman St between 1975 - 80. Always worked in and around the area too, though never actually in Carmarthen itself. I went to my last 'O' Level exams proudly on my Yam FS1-E, and have always had some sort of bike around (relegated to off-road dirt-bashing on old nails for a few years, then a couple of decidedly unsexy bikes due to abject poverty by getting married and having 2 kids  , but always had something). The place isn't that big... we must have crossed paths or have at least a passing aquaintence that knows both of us most likely. Yep - for sure I would be up for a meet and a ride out.

Not sure of the protocols or good practicce on on-line forums in general - it's not something I've much experience of. Border Biker and I have had a couple of private emails (BB was asking about some bits on my bike) - perhaps if we are to swap personal details so we can arrange something, then that's the way to do it?
