just a quick question about the 18k miles service

Post by hoflix »

what does it include?

I am getting ready for a cross-country trip and I am going over the technical aspects now...

I have 18.8k miles, I just changed the oil (bmw synth), the bike got the full 12k miles service at the dealer (at close to 14k), then at 18k the rear drive seal was replaced under warranty, also the front brake line recall was done, the alternator belt re-tightened (i was complaining about noise), and whatever standard checks they are doing each time.

Am I good to go for another 6k or am I missing something important?

PS: i did use the forum search, nothing conclusive...

I think it is mainly an engine oil change, check and adjust valves and synchronization, general look over, and, if you have a GS-911, read the error codes and handle what comes up.

BTW - there is no alternator belt adjustment - it's an elastic belt. IF the dealer changed the alternator adjustment, they have just greatly shortened the life of your belt. There is a standard distance between the crank pully and the alternator pully - that isn't supposed to be changed.

They "checked" it... whatever that means.
I was complaining about a "UUUUUUUU" noise at 2k rpms. I was told they used a stethoscope to check out that noise, took the belt off, checked the alternator, everything was OK.

Conclusion: "Noise is normal"

why would the re-tensioning of the belt (to specs) shorten its life?
