Decent deal or too good to be true?

Decent deal or too good to be true?
I am considering taking a look at this and was wondering what the folks here thought of it. Not sure if it is the abs model and emailed about that. Still awaiting a reply from the seller.

I'm a tad nervous about the warranty situation too. Im guessing since it is a 07 it is out of warranty? Or is the factory warranty a milage thing? If not does BMW do an extended warranty for purchase? I've dealt with aftermarket warranties and will not ever again.
The included helmets I won't use. I don't trust someone else's helmet. The jacket and pants are too big so i have no use for them. System cases included are nice too.
I'm also considering taking the plunge and going with a new bike because my last used vehicle purchase turned out to be an absolute nightmare and a money pit. I'm a tad gun shy right now.

Re: Decent deal or too good to be true?
I don't believe the photo of the bags is of the R12R that is in the other photos...
Re: Decent deal or too good to be true?
Also, the "tail" section looks suspicious. I have an '07 with bags and mine are different. Also, the tail section is different. The seat does not stick up like that. 900 miles is not bad, however, if you don't have to travel very far ... you should be able to see what one looks like before you go in other threads here ... look for deilenberger's pics ... his is one with pinstripes.

The tail shot does look like a catalog photo of some sort and not a real picture.
It's about a 2 hour drive to take a look at it.
I am thinking maybe it was dumped and the luggage has scratches hence the fake shot.
I should probably pass or be very suspicious.

Re: Decent deal or too good to be true?
That one has been posted many times. Hard to say why it hasn't sold. I could probably go look at it sometime next week if you want me to.
Re: Decent deal or too good to be true?
Having a look at it can't hurt? I would certainly check it out.
Good luck.

I'd be leery about it. Just a bad feeling. Could be completely wrong.
If you can swing a new one you'd be getting a 3-year warranty. The peace of mind means
something, especially if you've been burned before on used.

If at all feasible, why not look at it and take what you see as a learning step towards finding one that will work for you?
BTW, the seat seems simply not engaged in the lock, hence the raised tail. The non-original photo of the bags (might be of an RT) is strange but also doesn't have to mean the end of the world. However, it is a fact that all kinds of people try to sell all kinds of things online.
Personally, I'd be leery about buying a non-warranty bike, and I would be twice careful about buying an extremely low mileage bike like this out of warranty. These engines are meant to be ridden and don't get better from standing around. However, from the ad it is not clear if either is the case here.

Re: Decent deal or too good to be true?
That price doesn't strike me as too odd. Normal, in fact. A 2009 sold on fleabay with less than 3000 miles and factory bags for just around $9000. There's always a large disparity between what sellers ask and what cash buyers pay. I got my loaded '08 (with a few miles on the clock) for a GREAT price because I know that cash is king in this buyers market.
Re: Decent deal or too good to be true?
It does just look like the seat is not engaged... not sure why he'd shoot a photo like that.
And the pannier picture looks like a stock photo, but of an R1200ST. Same panniers, but again, not the bike in question.
I understand the desire to go new, and I did just that, with my own purchase. Takes the uncertainty out of things, and who knows what tweaks/fixes BMW has made to the hardware from 2007 to 2010 that they of course don't publicize.
Given my chronic grumbling uncertainty about the build quality of our bikes, I'd go as new as I could afford. (plus, as others have stated, you're out of warranty into no-man's land on a bike that's been sitting for long periods).

Re: Decent deal or too good to be true?
The warranty goes with both miles (36k?) and time since purchased, whichever comes first.NerdRider wrote: Link to the bike's posting: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/mcy/1872574398.html

So, if it's an '07 but the guy bought it at the end of 2007 (or in 2008, etc.), it should still be under warranty.
Others pointed out the seat wasn't engaged - I wonder why not, though?
One thing did look odd - I couldn't see the attachment rails for the luggage in the photos. They're not all that obtrusive, but I'd have expected to at least see the silver bolt heads where they attach the luggage rails to the rear frame, and the area under the seat looks a bit different than what I see in the garage every day. The bike comes with luggage ... does it come with the luggage mounts?
Couldn't hurt to check it out, I guess, but as you say - there are always other options for getting an R1200R.
Good roads,

Ask not why we should do a thing; rather, ask why we should not.
Re: Decent deal or too good to be true?
You might offer a service manager at a local dealership fifty dollars to look at the bike. I would not buy the bike without riding and checking it out... I wouldn't buy over the internet.

That, and that the ad says the bike was being "held" for someone else but that deal fell through ... that seems kinda weird, no?hoflix wrote:u guys are nuts!!![]()

Anyway, if it's all there and in good shape, it is a decent deal ... even if you have to spend $250 for the luggage racks. But I'd want to get it checked out first.
