Luggage Lock Cylinder

Post by vroomr »

The inner halves of my side cases were replaced under the recall involving loose mounting of the cases on the bike, and my locks were, of course, moved into the new case halves. On one of the cases I now find, when it is locked, I can depress the cylinder/button completely, which is OK because it doesn’t engage the opening mechanism. My only concern is that on my other two cases, when they are locked, the cylinder/button cannot be depressed. I wonder if the cylinder was installed incorrectly. Aaargh, another trip to the dealer.

Sure sounds like it was installed wrong to me. Don't get me started on case locks... I've now got one side that won't open with the ignition key, OR the case key...

Aaarrgghh, another trip to the dealer... (their mistake this time.)

Do you have any other info regarding this recall?

Thanks

Nick, this page:

http://www.allworldauto.com/tsbs/NHTSA_ ... 75057.html

had all the info I needed to start the ball rolling with my dealer. In my case (no pun intended) they replaced the inner halves of the luggage; on my friend's RT they replaced the mounting brackets on the bike.

Hmmm... there are several things here which may affect a bunch of us... brake lines and faulty gearbox component (only 46 units, mind you) seem important.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention!

Hi,

Is there any way to figure out exactly when the bike was built? Maybe by VIN? Any info would be appreciated.

Thx,
Alex

There's a black sticker on the upper back of the fork (throttle side) with the manufacturer date and VIN. Mine says "MFD 0908", so Sept. 2008. You can call BMWNA about any recalls on your bike. They'll ask for the VIN.

My side cases were an after market purchase, so in my situation VIN had nothing to do with it. Sloppy fit had everything to do with it.
