today and I thought I had somehow wandered into the wrong show room. It was full of Ducatis! I asked the young fellow that I had bought my bike from what was going on and he told me that due to BMW behaving like teutonic jackasses they had not had a new BMW on their showroom floor since July. They are changing owners of the dealership and BMW is complaining about minutia like the color of the walls ( walls that were fine for the previous owners ) and the way the signs outside were displayed. "Dang" said I and asked if they still had BMW parts and service. He told me that they did. Knoxville has 29 or 30 ( don't quote me ) motocops on BMWs and are still doing all of their maintenance.
We'll see if they get the BMW motorcycles to sell back. I hope so.
I went to the parts department and asked about a set of front brake pads for my bike. He was a hexhead RT owner who had an interest and so he asked me if I'd like to guess how much the pads would be . I guessed $50 and he said that is what he guessed also. We were both very surprised when the price on the screen gave us $94.99 as a price! For each side! That would be $189.99 plus tax to change them yourself. Man!
Also the parts guy mentioned that BMW was calling for a final drive oil change at 18000 miles. Well that was new to me. I asked the Service Dept. manager about this and she went and asked a technician about it and he told her that yes this was being called for and that Destination Motorcycles was changing the final drive oil every 6000 miles.
Has anyone else heard any of this?

It's been posted in several forums that the FD oil change is now at the 600 mile mark and at 12K mile intervals. The fluid volume is also to be reduced from 230ml to 180ml. A local dealer confirmed the change.The price for those pads is highway robbery, I'd be looking looking elsewhere for parts.

The rear pads are around $60 - for one set. I've so far put two sets in (seems to need them every 15k miles.) Haven't had to do the fronts yet (31.5k on the bike) and checked them about a week ago and I believe I'll easily make it out of warranty on the factory pads - at which time I'll go with the Carbone-Leone pads from BeemerBoneYard (the only reason to use BMW pads at these prices is in case a warranty issue came up with a brake rotor - BMW could refuse it and get away with this if other than BMW pads were used.. so..)

Gotta look into an aftermarket warranty for when mine expires.. anyone have good experiences with any?
