Paint question

Post by possum »

I am thinking of adding a Wunderlich Classic Roadster Fairing to my "R"...The fairing is unpainted.....I cant seem to find a paint code for a 2005 (Deep Blue Metallic) R1150R anywhere....

Check the Dark Ferro Metallic, Code 943 in the link below

http://www.bmbikes.co.uk/schemepages/schemer1150r.htm

If that is not it, go to a automotive paint store where they have a color computer that can read the pigmnet and match the paint.

Good luck.

Probably get a better match with Glasurit for BMW. Check the Ohio shop in BMWMOA-if you don't have it I can look it up

Have yopu tried www.color-rite.com?

They stock paint for most motorcycle brands, including BMW.

I have been painting /repairing BMW cars for many years and the paint code is one thing and a "good" color match is still a challenge. This is true for solids and mettalics , which can be hard to replicate anyway.Take my word that many paints out there -FREQUENTLY!-do not match well, even when you have the code. I prefer PPG paints and you have to work with them to get a match. There is also the fact that commonly there is more than one formula for the same brand for one OEM paint code.Just beware that there is more to matching paint than the location of the #! On the cars you use the paint "NAME" located on the left strut tower, which is the German name of the color, not a number. I was repainting the tank on my R65LS a few years ago(fell on soft asphalt) and it took me three mixes to get the Chinese red sort of red correct.Good luck, but you are not home free. Go back to my advice and get a Euro paint like Glasurit for a more likely match. Another tactic is, a larger paint supplier can take a picture of your old paint and get closer to a match.
