HI
I am on my Tucson Colorado Tucson trip, I was shocked when I looked near the steering head and saw the rotten black rubber ( from the tank forwards).
I thought I saw exposed wiring but all wires WERE intact!!! Breathe out ( I was in the middle of nowhere)
Duct taped the wires so they do not rub on the head stock and cut most of the zip ties.
Question:
The upper wiring from the switches have a shiny black spiral type cover.
I would like to fix it while in Paonia Co.
What is and where can I get the spiral covering?
I do not look forward to cutting off the EXCESSIVE DUCT TAPE.
THANKS FOR ANY HELP.

Go to any auto parts store, they sell it there in different diameters.
They are split lengthwise and will be easy to get around the wires. Make sure you don''t too large an ID (inside diameter) as it would be difficult to route because of it's diameter. You might consider using some electrical tape around the cover evey 6 inches or so to keep the wires in and in check.
No big thing.....good luck

Thanks Boxermania for the quick reply and the tips on what to buy and how to install.
Will go to a parts store as soon as I am in Colorado.
I am enjoyng the ride.
If your wiring is good, i.e. no faults. Then remove the tank if you can. Strip off the the tie wraps and rotten sheathing with care. If the wires have any sticky on then from insulating tape then clean them with WD 40 and wipe dry with paper tissue. When you are happy the wires are good, wrap with self fusing tape then cover that with black spiral wrap. Now secure this lot to prevent it from flapping about. I do not like tie wraps as they are narrow and cut the wires after a time so I use double sided Velcro. Its wide and soft so no problem for the wires. Just make sure that the wires are good with the steering lock to lock and dont forget the wind blast that will push the wires back.

I got some electrical 3/4" split-loom and cut a short section (about 2 inches) and placed it around the wires where they rub, then used tie wraps to secure the top and bottom. I haven't had any issues and it's been up there for almost 3 years

I am an empty hospital!
Thanks everyone!
My problem is living overseas and only "seeing the bike " when I am here riding. (roll on retirement, this bike's a KEEPER)
I was somewhere near Miami/Superior Az taking a break and checking the bike when I noticed the rotten covering coming out of the tank and thought I saw wires rubbing on the headstock. PANIC (I'd read the BURNT wiring harness posting)
All was ok. I ripped it all off and used duct tape to prevent rubbing and cut all the tight zip ties.
Thanks to this forum I "remained calm".
And emailed YOU ALL at the next wifi
I will look at wally world ..Daryl..like the idea of velcro AND WD40 SHOULD LOOSEN THE TON OF DUCT TAPE
Will do the repairs at Paonia
But first will get new !!!!!QUICK DISCONNECTS!!!!. (thanks again forum)
