How much do u pay for 6k service?
i just got my 12r and I scheduled an appointment for 6k service. The guy at Battley in MD told me it would be about $550.
That seems pretty high to me as my old bike (Honda VTX) ran around $280 for service.
Is this typical for the 12r or should i try one of the other dealers that is farther away.

I've heard that sorta number being quoted a few times - then when the guy picks it up - it's more like $275.
Things done at 6k:
Oil and filter - with synthetic and parts should be less than $200. Valve adjustment - takes about 1 hour - so whatever their labor rate is.. TB sync - 1/2 hour tops (if it needs doing, which is really doubtful.) Any updates to the computers are warranty items - so no charge there.
I'd be asking what they're doin' for'ya for $550.. (if they say Kissin'ya - run away..)

Air filter is 24k, alternator belt is something like 36k or 48k.. trans oil is 24k..
When did the spec change for the rear-drive oil change? Could you point me towards a service bulletin or some such?
Thanks!

1. 6000 mile service 1.5 hrs @ 80.00/hr= 120.00
2. Rear Drive Service .5 hrs = 40.00
3. Gearbox Service .5 hrs = 20.00
Prebooking special discount = -30.00
PARTS:
Oil FIlter 16.05
wast disposal fee 3.00
Misc shop supplies 5.00
seal .77
gasket ring 1.54
sales tax 15.87
TOTAL 6000 mile service bill $192.23
The actual service time is dead on to the estimated flat rates in the service guide.
I requested the additional service of the transmission and final drive as it is not that much trouble to change it when on the lift, and is good insurance to keep the fluids changed regularly.
Considering that I had the pleasure of playing with the R1200RT and the F800ST bikes for the whole time I was in for service, I find the whole experience and pricing quite reasonable.

$550 would be about right for the 12K service. Maybe the guy confused the two services. Ask again.

Just lurking in the 12R threads, as I own an 1150, but I'd recommend calling Morton's. They have relatively inexpensive labor charges (compared to other BMW dealers) and they are a good group of mechanics. The 12k could run you closer to $550. Then again, learn how to do some of the work yourself and you'll save some money and gain a better working knowledge of your own bike.

Anybody have this done in NYC? I am scared to see what BMW on 57th street will charge! Worth the trip to NJ or nearby dealer?

I had the 6K service done today at Blue Moon Cycle (the BMW dealer where I bought the bike) in Georgia. Total cost was $164.22.

Re: How much do u pay for 6k service?
Heritage Motorcycles of Pittsburgh just did the 6000 mile service (at 7500 miles) for $210.
Then the tire change, from my Conti Attacks to the Michelin Road Pilot 2s = $139. On top of $440 for the tires? Ouch!
Replace rear brake pads = $60.35.
Should the brake pads be toast after 7500 miles? The tires still had some life in them but I wanted to get everything done at once.

If you do a lot of city riding rear pads can certainly be toast by 7K or so..While less than half of the miles I put on my bike are in Manhattan I'd say 70% of the breaking and break wear comes while I am riding in this metropolis. My rear pads went at about 5500 miles. You might want to try and not stop as much.
I paid $94 just for the rear pads at BMW Corporate....not counting labor.

I recently had 12K service for $160.
R1200R 6k service?
Wow, culling together all the quotes listed just on this string alone we have:
$164
$177
$192
$210
$240
$275
Here is the killer, I just called BMW in manhattan and they quoted me $450 Plus tax!
I'd really like a clearer picture of the MUST do's, and the cost, and they Maybe do's.
Any advice/info is appreciated!
